Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If egg didn't come out of a hen's bum in a shell...

Do you think humans would've eaten egg if it didn't come out of a hen's arse in a shell? Do you think if it just came out in a dribbly mess that it would be as appealing?

Personally, I think we would've seen the slop and thought, "Ughhhhhhoooo  Yucky!" and left it alone.

    P.S.I'm drunk by the way.

Of course we would, we're omnivores. That means we'll eat anything.

Hey, Eve, I hate you. I might have a few later. :P

I dunno, if it could be fried or boiled I suppose but wouldn't it be hard to transport back home?

How would we have collected it? Why would we have even thought of eating it?

I've only had 3 cans of 33ml beer. Long week. Would be drunk just looking at a beer.

If it didn't come out in an egg the chicken would have to give birth to a live chick. Then we'd just wait till it fattened up a bit and then eat it, yummy.

    Honestly? Since last night...

You have to admit though, it's a good question. Eggs in their shell are so perfect. Everything we else get from animals needs to be made a little more appetising (blood, that creamy crap on top of milk etc) before it's sold but not eggs! Like Super Quinn Packaged them up themselves! You'd almost expect a label complete with barcode to come out with them...

    Lock'er up mods....

It sometimes happens when young birds start laying. They 'lay' a shellless egg. Normally they eat it themselves out of curiosity, or else rats eat it, but it does happen!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭maxfresh

if you analyzed other food we eat you would probably think its gross eg. black pudding -a load of pigs blood and other stuff
steak - a load of cow muscle

    but its all so nice

Any other questions you need answering? "What's a Canada?" for example?

    1. Chickens, as well as other birds, have a common opening for reproduction, and for the evacuation of stools and urine. This opening is called the "vent". They do not have a bladder because their urine is not a fluid. It is a white paste, called urates, that you can observe surrounding the droppings. The intestine, ureters and oviduct come together into a common chamber called the cloaca. This is a rather dirty place, whereas the egg is always clean and almost sterile when laid.

    2. The hen turns part of the cloaca and the last segment of the oviduct inside out, "like a glove." The described red membrane is then everted inside of these organs. The egg emerges far outside, at the end of the bulge. So it cannot contact the walls of the cloaca and get contaminated by stools or urine. Moreover, the intestine and inner part of the cloaca are kept shut by the emerging egg, and their contents cannot leave when the hen strains to deliver the egg. Therefore, eggs are always clean as they are laid. However, sometimes a hen, stomping around the nest with dirty feet, will get the egg dirty anyway.
I like when theres little feathers stuck on 'em :pac:

I would probably just think the chicken was crapping on itself.
In which case after it had been cleaned I'd just have a chicken sandwhich.

I think you're missing my point.

I'm talking about the wonder of the eggshell itself and what an incredible display of nature's prowess it is.
