Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've looked and can't see this posted already. Apologies if it is.

Player very lucky not to lose a hand

Match per YouTube was the AFC Champions League game between Iranian side Sepahan and Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli

Dont think it was Grenade. If it was refs and players would have been injured?

No. 40 was quite lucky there, he took a while to chuck whatever it was away, if he had to have been a second longer we would be saying goodbye to his arm.

As soon as I heard Iranian football, I thought Eamon Zayed, forgot about him but apparentely he's called mr hattrick over there now after 3 hattricks in a few games last season.

    Bombs are bad also btw.

It's definitely a smoke bomb, but either way I wouldn't want to be holding it when it goes off!

Number 4 for Sepahan doesn't even flinch. Boss.

Does a smoke bomb usually explode in flames?

Smoke tends to follow flames, there's a phrase to do with the phenomenon.

Here, they take the top off bottles of coke.
There, they allow you bring explodey things into the ground.
On the balance of things I pick having flat coke.

Candidate for the whitest thread alive methinks :pac:. Definitely NOT a smoke bomb. It was a grenade, or a small IED. Could have killed someone...

That's definitely not a grenade. Yer man is still lucky it didn't go off in his hand though or he would have been a shoe in for a Darwin Award

I doubt very much its allowed but look at the size of the thing, easy to conceal. Security might not be as good over there. They don't have the same money pumped into the leagues as in the UK and Europe so may not have enough security personnel or CCTV.

    Ugh. Flat Coke :/

IMO that is more than a smoke bomb, its some sort of explosive just not as powerful as a grenade.

It looks like a child's bottle.
Obviously a fair number of softies playing over there too.

There would be a crater in the ground and the players would be all laid out if it was a grenade

Is it just me or does the slowed down explosion of flames look fake?

I think it could just have been a 'normal' smoke bomb that exploded but the flames were added for addtional effect.

Also, it looks like the flames come (coming up from the ground) before the grenade hits the ground.

This is coming from my years of experience in bomb squads.

Could those expressing an opinion on the nature of the device just confirm whether their armaments experience extends beyond call of duty.

    If it were Hollywood, maybe.

Agreed. While I'm hardly an arms expert myself (never even played CoD :D), here's an M67 - a frag grenade - exploding. That's a military grenade. And that's what it looks like blowing up.

My guess is it was some homemade explosive (ie a grenade) that some idiot fan brought along to make a big bang with. And it could easily have killed somebody. Anyone who says this was a smoke 'bomb' which aren't designed to explode in that way, and release a hell of a lot more smoke, is way wrong.

Anyway, why am I here? :p

    It does look edited.

    This is the actual footage:

Looks to me like it's a home made smoke bomb or firecracker, you see these explode all the time in South America, Italy, Greece,...
