Another very good episode, seriously people you should be watching this.

Yeah I enjoyed it too. I wonder who clocked Abe at the end? Quinlan?

The scene in the jail was very well done.

I think it was guy with plank who was walking out the door as Abe was walking in. I think he is ole burnt ear he is looking for.

Also apparently Del Toro directed that last scene with Dutch in the White Room.

“Well, I dream very little that is interesting; most of the time it is very boring,” del Toro told reporters as THE STRAIN was filming on location in Toronto. “But I just thought the idea of Eichorst being a connoisseur — he’s so refined and elegant — I thought well…[and] I remember an old porn story where they said porn actors eat only pineapple for reasons of interaction, and I thought this guy would probably feed his victims only certain vitamins and juices so the flavor is a little better. I don’t dream normal. It’s very strange.”

Still a little silly in places, but this show is definitely getting better.

Only 5 seasons planned as well, which is a good thing.

Del Toro said he planned for the series to run between 3 and 5 seasons and FX have renewed it for a third season. I think 3 or 4 would be long enough to wrap it up nicely...no need to squeeze every last drop from it. But the kid has to die...twice! First let the feelers turn him and then let him be killed by a truck or blown up or even let the master kill him for being such an annoying little sh*t - after he's turned.

Spoiler if you watch on tv

I'd go further than "silly in places" - Setrk. V Eich. on the street and Eph. intervenes. Eich chases Eph to the roof and somehow a very old man still manages to get to a good position a few floors above the roof where Eich. confronts Eph.?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭PirateShampoo

Well that was one hell of genuinely creepy episode Eichorst is played brilliantly. It had Del Toro all over it.

Had to laugh at Jays Dad from Inbetweeners playing another dick.

Almost had a perfect episode, just two little silly bits.

    1. Why didnt she lock him in the room? (I suppose they never do, do they!)

    2. We can hear her screams in the other stairwell but Eichorst cant hear Dynamite?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,541 ✭✭✭duridian

Oh jaysus, that just seriously redefined cunnilingus for me. :p

Kudos to Eichorst for getting Dutch's lovely legs out on display for ten minutes or more though.

Felt a bit sorry for Eichorst- I felt he really liked that hot jew :D

The whole scenes with Dutch though felt very horror movie cliche right down to Dutch injuring her foot just be running a small bit. Glad they didn't "fridge" her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

Is it just me or has this thing completely lost all momentum, both sides just seem to be p***sing around new york doing nothing particularly interesting

The books were'nt much use but at least they were better than this

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,647 ✭✭✭lazybones32

This episode has nearly put me off the show. Eich. is supposed to be some non-human being yet Dutch can still hurt his feelings? I know he said the Master allows him to retain memories, etc to support the human facade but with all his enhanced abilities 1) he can't hear an explosion that opens a man-sized hole in a brick wall but hears and reacts to a silver-grenade that lands near him 2) he can't smell the blood of 3 people approaching, 3) he has no protection whatsoever in the darkness of the whole wing/building he occupies and 4) he has to run away from every encounter with Eph, Nora and yer man. A grenade was thrown and damaged Eich.'s face but Dutch is unharmed by the shrapnel?!

The Season started good but this one episode has made me re-evaluate the whole thing - we're no further on the story of the Ancients or of Quinlan and Gus; the vamp-virus has been totally abandoned despite it working; no mention of Coco even though she was saved by the Master last week. Also, Setrk. in S1 nearly got bitten by vamps. because he didn't take his heart medicine; in S2 he says he's been taking a diluted form of the worms in order to maintain his health (but the Master can't read his mind/thoughts, even though it is the Master, in essence, who sustains Setrk.)
Too much delaying tactics for my liking.

    Rant over.

    Oh, what a little turd...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭krustydoyle

I thought that was very predictable but I enjoyed it all the same

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,733 ✭✭✭squonk

I presume this was the finalé? Pretty good overall. I'm left wanting more now which is good. Splitting up the team has been good I think.

Eichorst's funds being pulled by Eldridge was a bit unexpected. Poor old Coco though. Anyone else notice she morphed from French to full blow American accent after being brought back from the dead? It seemed a bit disconcerting to me but she'll just be making that weird clicking noise from here on in!

Saddest death so far has to be the bread van! :). Talking of machines, why didn't the train just keep going. I'd imagine vampire bodies would be no issue for a train. Thee certainly wouldn't have been enough to derail the train. It looked to me like the emergerncy measures derailed the locomotive rather than the zombies themselves.

Now, as for Zack. Seriously, what a little turd. The master is welcome to him. The little bakstard should have run like he was told to do. Poor Nora. I knew she was a gonner in fairness but I didn't expect it to be quite as pathetic as things turned out. So, not content with getting Nora effectively killed, what does out little brat do next? Cuddles up to Vampire mam, doesn't take the chance to dispatch her and then walks off with her. I mean FFS! SERIOUSLY???? What does he think is going to happen? He's seen the whole vampirisation process first hand from dad who was trying to find a cure. Not alone did little turdface try to derail that effort, now he's gotten a team member killed and gone off to the master. Honestly they'd be better off killing off this kid. He adds absolutely notihing to the show and is a continual source of disappointment. At this point he's probably more annoying than Wesley Crusher!

Totally agree. He has to be the most annoying kid in any show EVER. He adds nothing to the show.

    I agree too squonk.
R.I.P. bread van and Zack deserves to be strapped to a rocket and launched at any nearby comet.

So we're 2 in and there is very little discussion here. :)

The opener last week was pretty good, but there were some nice developments this week with Eldridge, Zach and Quinlan/Ephraim.

    They're definitely mixing things up.

first episode of season 3 was excellent i though... a lot more menacing that i expected.. especially the parts with ephs wife.
Quinlan hopefully will be a much more engaged character in this series

there were a couple of lightheatred bits as well which were a good foil. and less zach = a better show.

it should be said that it pretty much bears no resemblance to the books at this stage....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭krustydoyle

Yeah , just finished the 2nd episode... its good.. And the new opening is an improvement

No Nora that puts a bit of damper on it for me.

So far off to a good start with the opening two episodes.

Fet really does have a way with the women :)

Is it just me that cannot understand Fet when he talks? He seems to mumble all his lines. Also he must have all the hair dye in New York stashed away. He would give John Travolta a run for his money :):)

I see Zach is still annoying as ever

Season 2 "I want my mommmmmm"

    Latest ep of Season 3 " I want my Daaaaad" :) ::)

Fet can do no wrong, he's B movie gold. Better dyed than thatched anyway

I should watch this series but I cant face anymore of that wee prick not being brained with a shovel by any character with an ounce of sense.

Right, having watched this season so far..the books progressed much faster than this from what I remember so maybe they've drastically curtailed the scope of the story

Also: For the love of christ don't any of these idiots know what photocopiers and scanners are?

Nora getting the chop last season I said really was the last straw for me, that little kid god I've never hoped for someone to be eaten as much as zach!!. And that's probably why I'm watching it again...for Nora! Haha. I like Fet, he's one of the cool characters, and the blonde girl, the hacker. She's cool too. Everyone else not so much,

A lot of unanswered questions at the end of that episode

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,647 ✭✭✭lazybones32

Only found out the new season started when I was looking for something else.

Not bad at all but I don't get why certain characters are still attached to vampires who try to kill them. It makes no sense.
There were some good scenes in ep 3 and a few turkeys (the ol' bag over the head 'trick' has been done too often across all other shows to be believed anymore) and the end scene of ep 3 highlights the flaws of directing, rather than making it climactic.

    Ep 4 was good.

Quinlan's pissed off now on hearing The Master could still activate/worm his way back. Dutch is back, maybe fet will do less mumbling now?

Loving the new opening titles, last season was too short.

What next, Eichorst is getting desperate.

Not bad at all.....apart from a few little niggles

If you were within sword-striking range, why go for the least useful part to remove?
We've gone from "Where's Mom?" to "I want Dad" to "Where's my son?"...I don't know how much more whining I can take.

Make the kid the new Master and be done with it. :)

Good episode though - next week should be interesting.

I was actually thinking the same...at least that way he'd have to be killed, so it's win/win for the viewers.

I think that's the way they are heading though - one of the main cast will become the new master before this season is out.

I don't think the kid actor could pull it off. Eichorst isn't doing a whole lot as the lackey so I wouldn't mind seeing him get the promotion so to speak.

Bolivar only made about 3 appearances since becoming the Master, so yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if the show promotes from within the current cast. Any ideas who?

I think Setrakian will die before long - he said something this Season about apprentices being chosen from people who have experience in alchemy, so I think Eph will be the most likely successor.

Eich was passed over already though...he'd make an interesting Master but his character is too important to lose for now.

I thought there was a new host for the master already in place? How did he talk to Eph via that strigoi towards the end of episode 4? Does he need a body to do that?
