RESISTANCE 10TH BIRTHDAY
The first Resistance Party took place at South in Tramore in early November 2002, with a line-up
of Green Velvet (live) plus Phil Kieran & Niall Power , in the main room and the legendary BP Fallon’s Death Disco
in room 2. In the decade since that first party Resistance have also brought Laurent Garnier, Jeff
Mills, Dave Clarke, Carl Craig, Timo Maas, Erol Alkan, Joris Voorn, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Slam,
Andrew Weatherall , Mauro Picotto, Roger Sanchez, Groove Armada, Felix Da Housecat, Deep
Dish, Steve Lawler, Derrick Carter, Kerri Chandler, Mylo and many more to various Waterford
clubs for crazy and memorable nights of partying. And now to celebrate their 10 th Birthday,
Resistance have organised a 10 hour Dance-Fest at The Forum in Waterford on Bank Holiday
Sunday, 28 October with 10 DJs playing for an hour each from 4.30pm to 2.30am. The line-up
includes international and national DJs who have played great sets previously for Resistance, plus
local residents that have been part of Resistance over the last 10 years. Advance tickets for this
multi-room dance festival are only €10 and are on sale now at Next Door (Forum) or by calling 051
871111. The main room line-up for the Resistance 10th Birthday Dance-Fest is:
CHRISTIAN SMITH - The Tronic main man from Sweden is the techno DJ of choice for club bookings,
remixes and collaborations with the likes of Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, John Digweed and Adam Beyer.
In fact Carl Cox recently nominated Christian as his “DJ Hero”. Christian has played a few great sets
for Resistance over the years and is delighted to return and play the closing set on 28th October.
JUSTIN ROBERTSON - A true electronic music original whose career dates all the way back to the
Madchester days, spinning at clubs frequented by two fans called Tom and Ed who would later
become The Chemical Brothers. Justin continues to play a mix of techno and electronic house at
legendary clubs such as The Loft (Barcelona), Pacha (Buenos Aires) and Bugged Out (Manchester).
PHIL KIERAN - Ireland’s finest techno export has released a huge amount of quality electronic music
over the last decade for labels like Skint, Soma and Cocoon. Phil has an impeccable DJ reputation
that’s won him Top 20 placings in DJ Magazine’s global 100 DJ poll and bookings at the World’s finest
techno clubs. Having played that first Resistance party 10 years ago, it’s great to have him back.
JOHNNY MOY - The original bad boy “party starter” was one of the most important players in the
creation of the Irish dance music scene. 20 years ago Johnny was the first to bring underground
international DJs like the Chemical Brothers to Ireland, and he was also the first Irish DJ to headline
at New York’s legendary Twilo club. Back with a great new track “Statistical Revision”, here’s Johnny!
DONAL DINEEN - The much loved alternative music guru played one of our favourite sets of the last
10 years at one of the early Resistance outdoor Terrace parties at Electric Avenue. Donal can play
and mix techno and underground electronica better than most of the more well-known jocks playing
the UK/Irish circuit. The man’s taste is impeccable, so don’t miss his 60 minutes on the decks.
NIALL POWER / GAVIN BOYCE / DARREN RICE / ALAN HARRIS / JOE GOULD - These 5 talented
local DJs have played for and spread the word for Resistance at some point over the last 10 years.
We are delighted they are part of the Birthday celebrations, especially Niall Power who has been
with us from Day 1 and still lives and breathes techno.
