Why did Cav and Wiggins drop out

I know Cav wasnt going to be able to win because of the steep finish, and Wiggins cant win anything unless its the tour de france or any timetrial he enters, did they lack the fitness to finish ?

the last picture i seen of wiggins after the tour he was drinking and smoking in Majorca and apparently the night before they messed up the Tour of Britian they were all on the gargle.
I would say his condition wasnt there. Also if you have a 9 man team the riders are designated to work and cover at certain times of the race. i thought again they rode crap doing so much work at the very early stages.

Cav's role was to be the early pace setter for Team GB. He was actually at the very front of the peloton for a long while. Eurosport mentioned it was the best part of 100km. That's probably a bit of exaggeration on the part of Eurosport, but it's probably not far off either. So, basically Cav was knackered.

Wiggo, as others have mentioned, is still celebrating his TdF and Olympic wins.

Everytime i see Dan Martin on a bike I am struck how like Stephen Roache he is...same pedal action, same thin arms out at right angles, same 'nodding dog' action when he accelerates, same upper body build and same head shape, eyes, lips

I think he will do very well in the future when he sorts out his allergies and illnesses.....

Yes. Did anybody else notice that yesterday he appeared to be spending an awful amount of time out to the side taking wind and not sheltering? It seemed very strange to me that he was doing that. I know that you need to be up near the front to cover moves but I think that he wasted a good amount of energy by hanging out there for so long and so often.

Yes that is true but Nico was the same behind him...Nico is always on the side ...with his 'I have two stiff hips and my pedasl are on fire' style....Its becasue they don't have a protecting team ( nico didn't have one in Vuelta/TdF) and so they have to be on the side to ensure they are up there so they are in a good position at the bottom of climbs and to watch for breakaways

I thought that Roche was much better at hiding than Dan yesterday tbh.

Nico's report is up at http://www.independent.ie/sport/other-sports/nicolas-roche-if-i-need-to-throttle-him-hes-on-my-bus-3239620.html
when Classic specialist Philippe Gilbert of Belgium exploded off the front on the steep section of the climb we were legless

Drunk during a race? For shame! :p

Gilbert must be taking off at some speed as the Cauberg isn't a long climb or extremely steep, I think the main part of it is 500m @ 10%, but hey, long enough & tough enough for the winning move.
