Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You can't open the door and you can't leave the car to go get help

er they're just sitting around the plastic but not the seal so not actually stuck in the door.
and even if they were you can just take the one key off the ring and open the door.

House in such a dilapidated state that even the bed has grass growing on it.

I mean, it's not "Funny Ha Ha", but it's kinda funny

It's funny in its own right but it's also a word for word joke from Mean Girls when the principal is addressing the students.. The character in the film also looks quite like Obama it has to be said. I laughed anyway.

I'd just like to draw people's attention to this post:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=82807250&postcount=4097

This was reported 4 times by 4 different people as being a repost. I've looked over the last 15-20 pages and couldn't find it posted before. Unless I've missed something, it's most likely that people saw the image somewhere else and reported it as a repost even though it hadn't been posted here before. There have also been one or two cases lately where an image was reported as a repost, but had actually been posted in the Picture Battle Thread, not in YLYL.

Please take more care when reporting reposts, and if you're not sure if you saw it here or elsewhere, it's probably best not to report it. We're probably going to be taking it a bit easier with regards reposts given some of these issues and feedback we've received lately, so unless it's one of those obvious reposts we get once a month (girl's arm makes it look like her friend is naked, shadow on girl's leg looks like penis etc) or one which was obviously posted in the last week, we might not edit it out. If it was an image posted once last year in YLYL2, we can probably allow it as a lot of people may not have seen it before.

Obviously, we're not expecting you to find where pics were originally posted or anything like that, we're just asking that people take a bit more care with what they do report as being a repost.

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,741 ✭✭✭Mousewar

I didn't report that one but it's been on the thread at least three times.
I don't look at any other threads like this.
Possibly the previous ones were removed so they're no longer there...

Edit - yeah, one of them was removed on the previous page...

    Just saw that now.

It's possible that it was previously posted and the image link is now broken which means where it was posted the first time, it's no longer showing up. I suppose that's a fair point to make. I'm only using it as an example though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,741 ✭✭✭Mousewar

Yeah, personally I'm not too bothered by reposts - it only takes a second to look past them. And especially so if it's one from a year ago or more.
That said, that particular Lance Armstrong one was annoying because it was three times in about a week iirc.

I'm wondering about one of the gifs in the gif thread, I presume it was taken on the ISS. It's the bags floating in zero gravity and then a blonde woman comes up and gets pass down the corridor....etc., etc. Anyone know the story behind this, or have a link to the corresponding video?

Harry didn't kill Voldemort, Neville did was the point. so if he'd been aborted it wouldn't of mattered.
(never mind that he killed most of the horcruxes or banished Voldemort in the first place for a couple of years...)

Harry did kill Voldemort, Neville killed Nagini. But the prophecy said that either of two infants could defeat Voldemort, it's just that he "chose" Harry. If Harry had been aborted, Neville would have been the one to defeat him :)

Is he skeptical about the IIII instead of IV? (Which is standard for clocks)

I do believe so. The Roman for 4 was IV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

IIII is traditional on clock faces though. I don't know why, the reason for it is probably long gone.

Is it the "IIII" for the 4 o'clock position you're looking at, or am I missing something else?

Anyhow, "IIII" instead of "IV" is a well established convention for Roman numeral clocks:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭paperclip2

IIII is normal enough on clocks:
Many clocks use IIII because that was the tradition established by the earliest surviving clock, the Wells Cathedral clock built between 1386 and 1392. It used IIII because that was the typical method used to denote 4 in contemporary manuscripts (as iiij or iiii).
