I was excited until I saw one chart was the CFS and the other from 1947.

Haha. Sorry, I think I need to point out that my confidence is purely sarcasm, before any newcomers get too excited! :P

But... things are tipping along nicely up in the strato. Few more pieces required to finish the puzzle though. Then the chaos that ensues needs to fall in our favour.

Just wanted to lift the spirits. I feel as if I'm wishing the days away living from run to run chasing the cold. It's almost exhausting.
    Anyone else feel this way?

No...because you need to know when to give up but quietly hold out hope.

Never mind the CFS, the GFS 00z was good! Look at the 06z GEFS member 14 from 216 onwards! http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gefs_cartes.php?ech=192&code=14&mode=0&carte=1

I'd prefer the later! But Ive to head out west at the start of february so if an easterly arrives then while im in the green frosty west while irish sea coasts get plastered, I will cry!

On a brighter note, I counted 9 members of the 12z GEFS with reasonably strong height rises to our north. Locations vary from Scandinavia to Greenland, the later being the most common. This is the first day of this "trend". Will be interesting to see if it develops further. Too early to tell if it's a response to the impending SSW. I've read that the SSW will drive the MJO into phase 8 which will support height rises over Greenland.(As per certain GFS output today) That would go along way to making any tropospheric response to the stratospheric warming be in our favour.

18z GFS has a very nice evolution in FI! :)

Do the better informed on here share some of the optimism on UK sites about a cold second half to Jan? Seem to be some positive vibes in far FI - possibly resulting from a SSW event.....

Ingredients are there but potential doesn't always deliver for us. Will be interesting model watching for sure.

No shortage of eye candy in the 12z GEFS esembles! Take a look through the lot, only a few go for the continuation of the current theme.

Look quick before it changes to the 18z! http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gefs_cartes.php?ech=324&code=4&mode=1&carte=0

are we getting there? That big Russian high in Dec built from the Svalbard area.
and drifted south. we'll live in hope that this trend continues?
