What's a good blender? Vitamix?

Want to purchasing a blender mainly for making vegetable smothies and soup. Am thinking of getting a vitamix. Does anybody have experience with these blenders? Especially the 5200 series? Also what alternative blenders to the vitamix are good?

Vorwerks are great with the added benefit of being able to cook tr vegetables too (and make loads of things). Pricey though at about a grand.
