You cant have Christmas and not have the Home Alone films and also the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film too.:D

The remake with Johny Depp was absolute muck.:(

Its safe to say you're not missing a whole pile, they're essentially made for tv movies that the Americans love, me not so much!

To be fair to The Royle Family.. while the last few Christmas Specials weren't great, the most recent - Joe's Crackers - felt truly back on form!

Watched Scrooged last Christmas Eve - am thinking National Lampoon's this year.

Must order the DVD now actually.

There is a brilliant BBC Christmas family film from 1991 called 'Bernard and The Genie' which never gets shown anymore.

Love this movie, got a copy on DVD after looking for years, it is a Christmas tradition for me now.

It was written by Richard Curtis and stars Alan Cumming and Lenny Henry. If you ever get the chance, do check it out.

RTÉ Christmas guide will be on sale the second week in December I presume? Ill be home from Friday the 21st. Will Saturday the 22nd be the first day the Christmas guide covers?

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 24,820 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

Yes it's a double edition and it looks like it will run from the 22nd of December to the 4th of Jan. Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

I have easily bought the RTE Guide 4 years in a row now without using it even once for tv listings. Damn you digiboxes and internet and phone apps!

I do enjoy doing the crosswords on it and reading the articles on it! Man I feel old! haha!!

Has anyone here seen Arthur Christmas? I saw the trailer for the dvd last night and was wondering was it any good? :)

And we're off. http://digiguide.tv have some listings for RTE on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St Stephens. Still some "to be announced" and BBC/ITV/C4 not yet up there but should be soon....

No confirmation on the big films but two things immdiately caught my eye. Willie Wonka is on Christmas Morning so that'll be on while we open the presents. The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo trilogy (I presume the original version) is on late on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St Stephens

I'll be watching all the usual Christmas movies (Home Alone is always top of my list!) as well as any musicals that appear to be on. I'm actually looking forward to the Call The Midwife Christmas Special; I really enjoyed the books and the first series so it should be good.

Well I just watched Christmas Shoes.... I won't be doing that again in a hurry! It is just so sad :(

Here's what UPC say on Facebook :)
Lots of you have been asking for it and now we can finally let you all know that the Christmas Channel will be available from this Saturday, Dec 1st. This year it's also available in HD so you can see Santa in crystal clear clarity. You will find the Christmas Channel on UPC channel numbers 318 & 340. Enjoy!

It's only if you already have sky movies though, not for everyone. :(

Saw the BBC christmas advert yesterday, from what i could see Alice in Wonderland will possibly be one of the main movies on Christmas Day, along with The Royal Family, Mrs. Browns Boys and Dr. Who.

I'd like to see Trading places with Eddie Murphy and Arthur with Dudley Moore! I also love watching Star Wars at Christmas :)

Ooooh.... I forgot Trading Places is Christmassy, hooray.
I'll use any excuse to rewatch that film. :D
