Visual studio 2012 ultimate question

if i create a project using visual studio 2010 im assuming that 2012 will be able to open it no problem. my question is, if i created a project on 2012 will 2010 be able to open it? thanks in advance!

VS2012 will open previously created solutions/projects from older versions and vice-versa.

I have not had any problems doing this on over 20 solutions/projects. I am also able to open the solution in the older version of VS2008/VS2010 after opening it with VS2012.

Thank you for the reply! The reason i asked was because i am doing a Business information systems course and was told by my lecturer that 2012 projects will not open with vs 2010.

You can do so, it's called "Project Round-Tripping". However, I was under the impression that this only worked with 2010-2012.

I always just open the project with notepad and change the versions. Works fine after that.

There are a few projects that don't play nice, SQL Server CLR, Older Azure Solutions, etc. In general though what I do is copy the solution file, Append it with 2012 and change the version number, no fuss, no muss.

I did a project in vs2010 this year and opened it in 2012 without any problem.
2012 has some really cool features.
