Make sure your vents aren't blocked, better to have a slight draught than be poisoned!!

Our nightly routine: fireguard up, everything plugged out, all internal doors closed and keys next to the front door in case of emergency.

If your clothes happen to catch fire while cooking - stop, drop and roll. Also, buy yourself a fire extinguisher for your household.

When you lock a door with key make sure you ALWAYS put the keys in the same place. Never leave them in the kitchen, in your pockets, bag. have one designated place near the door to keep there all the house keys.
In case of emergency you won't have chance to go back to search for it.

When locking your door at night, leave the keys in the door!

In the event of a fire, with black smoke everywhere and in a blind panic, you won't be able to search for them. If they're in the door you'll able to escape quickly!

If you have gas appliances (cooker or fire etc) make sure the room that it is located in has proper venting!
