Great character actor best known as the accident prone boss of Inspector Clouseau but in countless other films over 70 years.

My eye has already developed a nervous twitch!

A Pink Panther film* is always guaranteed to cheer you up.

    RIP Herbert.

*except for the ones starring Steve Martin as Clouseau.

Don't forget the awful post death "Sellers" film in the early 80s - Trail of the Pink Panther and Curse of the Pink Panther and the unknown, rather than completely forgotten, Son of the Pink Panther in 1993

It was understandable that United Artists wanted Blake Edwards to continue the franchise after Sellers died - they needed an assured hit following the disaster of 'Heaven's Gate'.

But there is absolutely no excuse for 'Trail'. To create a story from unused footage, then turn the rest of the film into a compilation defies belief. Hollywood greed at its absolute worst.

RIP, Ladykillers was before that too.

Are any non-English language roles he played?

Au revoir Chief Inspector. He had so many great roles in a very long career. RIP

Two films in 37/38 the first looks like a walk on type role.

A very versatile actor. I saw him recently in The Ladykillers and he was the one character in the film who came across as genuinely menacing. RIP.
