Assignment 92: 'Automotive'

Hey guys

There seems to be a lot of cartographers out there lately, and some great images

You don't need examples for this one, so will leave it up to yourself, but I really want to see people push themselves and think outside the box!

Note that it's not 'Car Photos' it's anything with a motor, Bikes, Lawmowers, Trucks, buses, golf carts? :P


The rules:

-Photos must be posted within 2 weeks of the day the task was set– so the closing time/date is 23:59 on Friday October 12th 2012.
-No old photos.
-Only photos taken with this task in mind qualify, therefore, the photo must be taken after 00:00 on September 28th 2012
-Photos must be on the given task.
-ONE photo per post. But submit as many posts as you like.
-Stretch yourself – there is no limitation to what you can do to produce the image.
-The next task/subject is to be chosen by the person who has the most thanks after their post at the closing date/time (the post must include a photo).

i love taking car pics, but the weather has been too crappy lately, so haven't gone out to wash the car ill prob end up missing this one
anyway, 33 likes will be hard to beat. winner from the start! :cool:

I didn't know what it meant when I saw it at first .
Especially when I saw the word 'cartographers'- which I thought had something to do with maps.

Stop ten people on Grafton Street and ask them what ' Automotive' is.

And the Title does set the tone.

On reflection I deleted that post 2 minutes after I posted it.

The first bit is to find a way to mount the camera. For me i used a tripod and cable tied it to a bulkhead. Spend a bit of time getting it in the right spot, so you get a good view out of the windscreen.
The next bit is to find a bit of road with plenty of lights thats not too bumpy, otherwise the inside of the car will look blured in the photo.
Then go drive.
Use the camera in manual focus, and get it focused on the dash. Use a small aperture, as this means you can drive for a while and the bright lights dont look overexposed, and will also look crisp in the final shot.
Then with the camera in bulb mode, open the shutter for around a minute and drive. (using a remote control)

Its a real hit and miss thing. As you cant be entirely sure what you are going to get till you see the pics on a big screen, but thars all part of the fun.

A few tips, clean your windscreen, remove the centre mirror if possible. And find a bit of straight road if you dont want the steering wheel to be a blur.
