Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The best way to look at it is that iPhones are for people who just want it for the looks and don't care how it works. Androids are for people who want to get into the nittygritty of the phone and customize everything- I've changed everything from my launcher, to my lockscreen, to my dialer, just because it was unbelievably easy to do so.

Then you'd be a lousy boss.

Any decent manager in retail knows that some customers are a pain and front-line staff need to be able to vent about them from time to time. Then they'll feel better and can go back to the shop floor again.

People don't know what they fcuking want. But as long as they're materialistic and follow the heard Apple will have nothing to worry about.

Didn't have to change anything on my iPhone as it works perfectly well as it is. Why would i buy something only to then have to go and change it all?

and that is why my S3 and Galaxy Tab are hidden under my porn mags.

No, not at all. Believe it or not iPhone owners are capable of understanding things far more complex than "oooh, look. Shiny!"

    Sent from my iPhone.

    Just because I can, really.

You see, I'd rather have a phone that has everything I want, is perfectly functional and has a great UI right out of the box. That way I don't have to waste time customizing it or upgrading it, rooting it etc and instead can spend that time having fun with my family and friends.

So using that rationale I could make a sweeping, pointless statement such as your earlier one and say iPhones are better for people who have a large number of friends and a full social life, as where Android is great for nerds who like to sit in darkened rooms customizing it between games of World of Warcraft, and then setting Maniac2000 as their ringtone while sitting on the bus to college where they study computer science with their "friend" Melvin.

See? It's easy to make stupid comments, isn't it?

Rarely use youtube, find the SkyGo and Netflix apps work better on my iPhone than S3 though.

    Don't illegally download music.

I like the dialer. What more do you need to dial a fúcking number?

Launchers? The App tells me what it is and I click on it. Easy.

Got my own ringtones using Ringtone Maker or whatever the hell that app is. Maximo Park, Death Cab For Cutie etc all the way, assigned to personal contact tones.

Ultimately though, it's the fact that the email on S3 is terrible for using on MS exchange. I don't want to have to manually refresh subfolders. It can mean i miss important emails, so iPhone wins that one hands down.
I have downloaded about 4 youtube clips in my life from the laptop why on earth would I need to do it from my phone, just use the laptop for it.

Its just a blatant lie saying you cannot put free downloads on an iPhone. One song on my iPhone was paid for all the rest were downloaded from torrents.

I dont even know what a launcher/dialer is so it certainly isn't effecting me.

Musical ringtones are for children, a normal phone ringing ring tone is all thats needed.

I only use about 8Gb of the 16Gb on my 4s whats the point in spending 200 euro more for a heap of memory I will never use. Id be happy to spend less and get an 8Gb version.

Lads lads lads, i didn't say you had to/must do the things I listed, I just pointed out a few things you were restricted from doing.

By the way, I'm not an apple hater, i owned a few iPhones in my day too, found them brilliant, but then i got my first Samsung, and I found it better.

Like i said in my first post, horses for courses.

No need to get bitchy lol

I can't believe why someone would spend so much money on an electronic surveillance device that has the capabilities of revealing your whole personal life to Government departments without warrant.(In many countries)

It is only recent that Apple applied for a patent that would allow governments to disable your camera according to location.

God only knows what other patents that they are thinking up, I guess it will be down the slippery slope towards full blown cashless payments

Run_to_da_hills, is there any group comprising of more than two members that you don't suspect of being part of some massive shadowy conspiracy to eventually enslave humanity?

Apple make billions of dollars in profit per year, but do you suspect it is somehow a cunning ruse for their more sinister goals? We've had cashless payments for years. Visa and Mastercard have applied for hundreds of patents over the years.

Criticises Phone as an electronic tracking device.

Uses pc connected to the Internet which is possibly just as much as a tracking device as a phone to post said criticism on a message board.

Because most people don't care even if the government could find out your location. I can't believe someone could live without a smartphone, I had to use an old nokia a few months ago and I barely lasted the day without access to apps and the net.

Also whats the problem with moving towards cashless payments, bar one or two exceptions using cash is only a nuisance compared to using a debit card. The only time I use cash anymore is in the pub or for very small purchases.

Apparently the only goal of all Governments is to collect data which will reveal just how boring of all our lives really are.

What I love about "tracking us" conspiracy theories is that they can never provide a comprehensive answer to what use any governmet would have for all of that information.

Sure its not like its exclusive to smartphones anyway they could find you if you have any phone at all as if your connected to a network you can be found if they really wanted to.

My phone is almost permanently attached to my hand so missed it a lot, kept pulling out the phone and then remembering I only had a "phone".

Couldn't check emails, couldn't keep up to date on scoring in the golf, couldn't check scores in soccer matches, couldn't check twitter or facebook, had no music player, couldn't check the weather, couldn't check odds on paddy power, couldn't go on the web.

That's just the stuff I wanted to do that I couldn't on that particular day the list would be much longer if I started adding in everything that I use the iPhone for that I would miss very quickly if I didn't have it.

It's changed since the early days so, I used it back when the nano came out and it was a nightmare, the device was hidden and didn't show up in any obvious place until you made a playlist.

iTunes was about my only experience with Apple software and it was horrible. Now I can't think of any reason why I'd need or want it so I won't be installing it again.

judging by the posts and any one that I know that uses an android phone, an android phone really is just a poor mans iphone.

There is a reason why apple are so successful and that's because of their millions of customers and their innovation. Always have something new and better to offer then any other phone!

No matter what people say about the iphone, there is still going to be millions of customers waiting for the next iphone and the iphone after the next.
    Unlike android

No android market will ever replace apples number 1 spot on the top most innovated companies :)

I mean I use them sure but mail (unless its biz related), twitter, facebook are non-essential they can wait until I get home (or back to the office). Sports ok, well I'm not a huge sports fan so that wouldn't bother me, but again what's wrong with finding out the score 2 hours later, does it actually have a negative impact on ones life? I own both android and iphone, and i'm surprised that the one thing that annoys me about low to mid priced android phones is never mentioned: MEMORY

sure, you've 4 or 8 or 16gb internal memory, and some allow you to add an sd card... all well and good. UNTIL you realise that a portion of the internal memory is set aside for contacts and apps and texts and once that fills up, you gotta go freeing up space. sure your sd card can be used for installers and pics and music, but once the OS is installed on the iphone the remainder of the memory is allocated for everything....and i've never once run out of space on an iphone, the same cant be said for android.

iOS simply handles memory and storage space a hell of a lot better.

In fairness though this isn't an issue for the "higher end" phones running on Android. I think the new HTC One X doesn't even support expanding storage!

My biggest problem with non-Apple phones is that there isn't a decent one that has more that 32gb internal storrage available in Ireland. I have a pretty big music collection and when I had a Galaxy II, Desire HD and an Xperia Play (still great as a game emulation system) I had to carry an iPod about with me too. Playing music off memory cards is flakey and there was many times on my Galaxy II when the card would decide to just unmount itself and not recognise the files on it without a reset.

I love the look the Lumia 920 and have always been a fan of Zune software but it's only 32gb and so I'll be holding on to my 64gb 4S.

its extremely easy to adjust the internal memory settings on any android phone. But some people dont want to root phones and install different software and launchers, thats fine. iPhones suit people like that where it is what it is when it comes out of the box. An hour or 2 rooting and adjusting things on a low spec android phone I have and it has anything I have heard that is inovative on this new iphone 5. I have never run out of memory, have well over 100 apps on the phone and a few gigs of music and videos.

each to their own, but I couldnt justify spending that amount of money on something that doesnt come close to being worth that value. That is another thing that isnt spoken about much, value for money, and for sure, iPhone, to me anyway, is no where close to being value for money.

Look you could get on without them but when your used to it and also when there is no reason not to have access to what you want then I might as well use it.

I follow sport a lot and I really like to keep very up to date with it, 2 hours is a a long time to me in sport especially if I have bets on I like to keep right up to date. I can also watch skysports on my phone if Im somewhere without sky or I want to follow two events at the same time, one on tv, one on the phone or even 3 events tv, phone and laptop :D

Another thing is skype and viber, especially with have family members living abroad it means I can use skype anytime I want (once I have 3G coverage or wifi)

Another thing is having my outlook calender linked to the phones calender this is very helpful for not forgetting work things and meetings.

i keep mine under my tinfoil hat.

your bank can see all your purchases though, times, places etc. most companies know a lot about your habits and usage if they want to go digging. Like phone company employees, , the amount of info they have at their fingertips is ridiculous.

Single partition support was added to Android 4.0, although most manufactures bar the Nexus haven't actually bothered with it so far. It was added at the expense of USB mass storage (UMS) support out of the box. MTP is the default file transfer method now, although as always there are ways to reenable it.

The reason for the multiple partitions up until now is that in order for SD cards to show up in explorer as a UMS device when you plug in the phone (in the same way a USB key or external hard drive does), the card partition has to be unmounted, which of course can not be done if it is being presented as a single partition that includes the internal memory of the phone.
