Payment into wrong account

    Hello,

A client has paid money into a wrong account. They've contacted the bank and the bank has told them there's nothing they can do about it as the money has been transferred into the recipient’s account (AIB to AIB).

The person has had dealings with the client's business in the past and so the business had their bank details on their online account.

The person has been contacted and isn't answering their phone, it's either ringing out or going to voicemail. So, it's not looking good for a co-operative return.

Am I correct in thinking that once the person has been informed the funds are not theirs then it would be a criminal offence for them to use the funds?

This must be common enough in the world of internet banking. What's the best way to get their money back?
