Dublin Areas

Hi, I'm sure this thread has been done to death but doing a search I couldn't find any decent or recent threads that would answer my question. So apologies if you're sick of these threads and you're reading another one.

I'm moving to Dublin soon and looking at various areas that would suit me best for getting to work as well as socialising (ie getting home drunk). The areas I've narrowed my search down to are Parnell Square East (possible west), O Connell Street, Smithfield (and in between SF and O Connell St), IFSC, and anywhere east of Grafton St to the Canal.

Any rate these areas for me in terms of amenities, safety, transport, etc?

    Cheers!!!

Mick, those are not the best areas for safety or even amenities. I would not make any of them my first choice.

I often get home drunk to Rathmines on a bus, or by taxi, or on shanks mare (in about 45 mins).

Where (approx.) will you be working?

I would not live too near work, or too far out either. Think in terms of areas about 2 miles from your work.

    Thanks for the reply Boulevardier.

I'm working near the Burlington Hotel. I have a budget of 500 for a double room, I'll go higher if it's really worth it. I'd like somewhere that would have me within walking distance of the city centre (Trinity for example). Not too bothered about taking a bus to work if the journey is less that 15mins.

    Any suggestions?

Have a look in docklands. Not sure whats in your price range, but grand canal dock and ifsc are grand and have good transport and local shops, cinema in the point village etc. i'm assuming its a flat share you're looking for?

Yeah it's a flat share. I've looked at the IFSC and like it, but it's pretty expensive and I'll have to be lucky to get somewhere for 500.

    Thanks for the advice!

Don't know where you got it from but the list in your first post is fairly crazy!

Ranelagh, Rathmines, Ballsbridge, Donnybrook would be perfect for you. You pay a premium(Unless its a dive!) to live in the city center and your not really benefiting from it if your working out near the Burlington hotel.

Also by all accounts from people I know who have lived in the area the IFSC is a pretty depressing place to be at the weekend.

I just put my budget in to daft, saw where the decent places were coming up and then worked out which were the best for bus routes. Probably not the best way to do it.

i lived off Parnell Square (Granby Lane) for years and loved it.

It is so close to everything and you can stumble home every night and not have to worry about taxis etc.

would definately recommend living there or Meath Street.

Meath is brilliant, again, stumbling distance home at night, close to everything great athmosphere, good pubs etc.

if i had to choose between Parnell Square and Meath Street, i think i might choose Meath Street.

am currently thinking about moving to Stoneybatter, as well. Mainly for the pubs tbh :)
