Spanish floods

There has been some very heavy floods in southern spain in the last few days. Pretty crazy given that large parts of that region of spain is desert like.
But then again they do say that it is the rainy season in that part of spain now.

This is the norm for southern Spain, ie log dry summer drought dry rivers and then monsoon style events in autumn winter

God, thats nearly the same amount as the november 2009 floods in just 6 hours.

Southern Spain is full of dry riverbeds called Ramblas ( or a Wadi in North Africa) and you do not want to be near one when it rains....sometimes it rains miles inland and you do actually not see any rain. The water runs straight off the hard baked soil.
