30 year old male, what to wear?

Hi,

I'm a 30 year old male. I still wear clothes that were in style a few years ago and I look out dated now, especially with my jeans and shoes!

I find it very hard to find clothes that suit me. I see all the young bucks these days wearing Chino's and flimsy shoes etc, not sure if they're for me, I don't want people thinking that I think I'm in my early 20's.

I live in Galway city so everyone seems up on their fashion, I'm left behind. I normally wear jeans, Diesel or River Island (bootcut) white either white Shoe runners at day time and maybe brown shoes at weekend night time. T-shirts most of time or maybe shirt if Im headin to pub..

Any advice on what to be wearing and where to buy in Galway city would be great.

Try out a slim or straight leg jean. Dark denim looks best IMO. Personally I hate boot cut jeans! I think they look dated and aren't all that flattering.

As for on top, shirts always look good, so long as they fit properly. H&M and River Island have good casual ones. If you want to spend more have a look at Thomas Pink or Reiss. Plain colours or subtle stripes/patterns are nice, just be sure it doesn't look like a short that would look more at home in the office. Maybe try wearing shirts during the day rather than tees. Block colour t-shirts and printed (not slogans..!) tees are great for during the day. I don't know Galway myself, but if there's a TK Maxx have a look there for t shirts, jackets and coats. Great value to be had. Shoes too.

If you want runners, Adidas Samba are nice. Ecco also have leather shoes that are more casual than brogues, but not as dressed down as runners.

The Jack and Jones shop in the Eyre Sq. centre has some pretty nice casual stuff. Then there is always BT's...I love the Lyle and Scott and the Paul Smith stuff especially. Funky but appropriate for a 30 yr old. My husband is in his mid-30's and wears loads of this stuff. He wears jeans loads and cords...he got a few lovely pairs in the Tommy Hilfiger shop on Shop St.
With regards to shoes...River Island have some nice ones. Hubby also got some nice ones in Greenes (opposite Jack and Jones) in Eyre Sq. centre.

Just want to add...bootcut jeans on guys are outdated. Straight leg are the way to go. Also check out Hanleys...lovely Lacoste jumpers, Boss, Tommy etc. Overall a cool shop for late 20's, 30's and even 40's. Debenhams John Rocha also does nice stuff now and again

Thanks for that I've been to most of these shops but my main problem is what to buy and what I at my age should not be buying! The advice on bootcut is kinda what I was looking for also, because I wear bootcut jeans and I did feel that they looked out of date! Chinos are probably the younger mans jean, so I'll maybe look at getting straight jeans, then the problem is what shoes to wear with them etc...

Notice it's not particularly what you're wearing, as opposed to how you wear it. Try and create your own individual style with bits a pieces from everywhere - avoid J&J etc if you're trying to get away from that boring bootcut jeans casual look.

And try to focus on the fit. Everything should fit you perfectly i.e. no bagginess - if it doesn't, don't bother buying it.

I'd go to the Tommy shop and get a couple of pairs of cords...maybe navy and black. Then get a couple of pairs of dark-ish coloured straight leg jeans too.
Shoes-wise....don't go for a typical brogue...I'll see if I can find a link to shoes I think are nice to go with that kind of look.
Jumpers wise....you really can't go wrong with the Lyle and Scott and Paul Smith, Lacoste etc. As I said, BT's and Hanleys should be your friend!!!
My husband got a lovely pair of black Sketchers shoes for €55 in Elvery's last week. Have a look in there.
I'll see now if I can find a pic of nice shoes for ya..

I'd get a pair in black and brown (not the same pair but similar casual style). Go to Logues..they have a great selection. And try Greenes in the Eyre Sq Centre.
Also, no harm to get a pair of runners too...but more like a casual pair rather than an actual sporting runner if you know what I mean!
Keep brogues for wear under suits, more formal work wear.
I don't think chinos are for the younger crowd AT ALL...I think they are very age appropriate but I wouldn't think you should wear them in a casual Saturday...I'd reserve them more for work wear or slightly more formal occasions than a weekend. Cords, jeans, casual shoes, nice jumpers and you are good to go! Galway is a casual town...So no need to go overboard on the style stakes!

Can I just say that I agree with Galwaygirlee.... That's the kind of look I'd go for in a guy. Love nice jeans, those kind of shoes and a funky t-shirt. Funky tee very important - love surfy looks, some brands that I go weak for on a guy is Weird Fish, Drunken Monkey, slightly offbeat but cool. (Well cool in my opinion anyway).

just because you're turning 30 doesn't mean you have to dress differently, wear what you feel most comfortable in, try some new clothes to get ideas, don't ask other people, no offence but some of the links posted above look like they should be worn by 40 something's or eccentrics.

All of these shoes are extremely ugly. Stay away from skechers unless you're a 15 year old girl.
