There's your problem right there. Threads aren't set up to bait or bash others. They're set up to discuss things and give an opening opinion (which in a lot of cases is something the majority of the forum would probably agree with). If other people who hold the opposite view see it as being "baiting or bashing", that's their own interpretation of it, but likely does not represent the initial intent of the OP.

Then starting creating threads criticising lefties fruitcakes. Honestly this is reading like some viewpoints should be protected from criticisms that's not how a and a works.

While the proportion of right "bashing" threads is higher than lefty ones, the amount is still quite low in relation to the forum itself.

Some threads are indeed set up to bait or bash others.(hit and runners being most the common type) Some are locked, but most are given every chance to find some sort of life. If that means discussing biscuits then so be it.

    Trolls are cuddly.

    Let's vote on it!

    Question:

Should A&A be restricted to allowing discussions only on topics obviously directly related to non-belief in deities?

    I vote Biscuits.

    No I don't.

If all of those were created in succession then we'd have problem. The reason I've stated before is that those topics are in the general scheme of things a minority. So we - this word is very important- tolerate them. They're not overtly off topic because they're a minor, members are interested in discussing them and we're more than happy to facilitate that. Variety is the spice of life. But obviously it's about keeping things within an acceptable spectrum.

If someone posts about feeling suicidal we're not going to be sitting back and waiting. Some threads are moved immediately, others are given a wait and see approach if movement is required then the thread is tidied first then moved. Sometimes the spin offs are left in tact in this forum and the original is moved.

Hardly. Again, you had no problem with them whatsoever until very recently, so this sudden turnabout is very, very strange indeed.

By saying that certain topics should be discussed elsewhere obviously limits the range of the forum and is - effectively - censorship. It also looks to be a play for control of the subject matter of the forum and influence, against the wishes of the majority of its members and (presumably) moderators.

You make it sounds like the place is inundated with 'agenda' threads.

    Just to reiterate:

A quick look at the 50 most-recently-posted-in threads only has one thread that doesn't concern religion. That was the legoland directions thread that was left for the craic.
We're really only talking about a couple of threads here aren't we?

I think that's just a function of the demographics. European atheists of which Irish atheists are a subset tend to be traditional leftists.
If a thread starts to revolve about economics or gun control those on the right are going to be outnumbered pretty badly, that's just a given.
I don't think the forum has been actively engineered by anyone to be hostile to conservative and libertarian posters, it may be hostile, but it doesn't need engineering, most of the posters would be hostile without ever having posted on A&A.

Very few and not at all convincingly. Even more bizarre that these complaints arise simultaneously after years of posting and membership.

Yes. If one were cynical one would wonder at the sudden return of prodigal sons ready to tell us how we have been mislead in their absence...

You can always be gay for someone(s) of the opposite sex, like.

So, in other words, you are complaining that other people don't agree with you?

The Dublin Airport cap is damaging the economy of Ireland as a whole, and must be scrapped forthwith.

I can't help but think there's some truth in this.

There is no agenda, or intention to politicise here. There's only the people who post here and everyone has the right to put their views across - be they shared by the majority or the minority.

It seems that due to a large proportion of vocal atheisty types that the forum predominantly leans one way, which is not something that anyone can, or needs to do anything about.

There's nothing we can do about the political tone. People are free to criticise whatever beliefs or ideas they wish. They just can't call another poster stupid for any reason. The ideas though can be called idiotic, stupid , excellent etc.

As I've said on several on occasions now right wing, left wing hold no legitimacy here. No idea or belief is scared.

Or we would like to discuss atheism and religion in this forum but are trolled back to our batcave by posters like Nodin who seems to think God placed him on this earth the end the libertarian scourge in every single thread, regardless of topic. The fact that Jank is now being penalised with Nodin seemingly taking time off work to volunteer as a moderating assistant simply gives credence to our perception of this forum as for atheists with left-wing political leanings only, which is also evidenced by Robindch's soapboxing rights. Heck I could even tolerate the Atlas Shrugged threads if they even remotely approached the admittedly low standards of the political theory forum!
