I presume it's 12 tonne when full of something compact like sand, gravel etc. so 6 cubic metres of ash, just to get the ball rolling: €500

    One million dollars

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it !

    A 5kg bag of firewood retails @ €5 , so 200 bags in a tonne is valued at €1000 .

But you selling this wholesale , not retail right ?

    So knock of 40% = €600 value .

Now how many tonnes in that trailer ?

What its worth is entirely related to what someone is willing to pay for it. So here's the range of issues that you need to clarify:

    a) where is it located? county/townland needed to establish transport costs;
    b) what is the length x width x height of the stack of wood that is in the trailer- the dimensions of the trailer itself are largely irrelevant until usage on public roads becomes an issue.
    c) when was the timber cut down? needed to estimate whether it is green (wet) or dry.
    d) are all lengths (reasonably) straight or are they bendy all over the place?

With that info., one could make a reasonable stab at value between 450 and ?50.

Otherwise, your question is the same as asking how long is a piece of string...

    Tom

if you use it to replace your oil usage over the next few years it would be worth more to you.

A 40 Kg bag of coal is 12€, work out the math and which provides more heat. Coal wins hands down all the time.

Dimensions of 12 tn dump trailer

    With mt 2.1
    Height mt 1
    Lenght 4.00 mt

Ash cut in last 3 mt mostly straight
    Location south east
Also have some soft wood what value
    All replies appreciated

If trailer is well packed, then you might get €550 - €600 for the Ash if a local is interested.

Softwood- if it's 3 months cut as well, it's very green and any knowledgable buyer would probably pay about 300- 350 at best.

There is an ad in my local Waterford newspaper this week which says '' 40kg bag of firewood €4.50 ''

This is impossible , because a 40kg bag of firewood weighs a max 8kg - so 40kg of firewood would be around 5 bags of firewood at least.

So if OP wants to know the value of his trailer of timber , the best he can do is go to an independent weighbridge and note that if a bag of firewood retails @ € 4.50 , then this is € 562.50 euro p/tonne , and when he receives the weight of trailer , then he can calculate the value accordingl.

Note that hardwood normally retails at 50c per bag more than softwood ( presuming its Irish beech , ash , sycamore, birch etc ) so OP can add another €62.50 p/tonne to value

Allthedoyles - by your calculations, the trailor load of ash is worth about 6025 euro........which could be a bargain...... if and when the ash tree becomes extinct:D.
You can't work out the price of a given volume of wet 'cordwood' by simply multiplying the price of the finished product [which has been chopped, split, stacked, dried, bagged and loaded].

Milkprofit has given the dimensions of the load as adding up to 8 cubic metres
TomOnBoards' estimate of 500-600 euro is probably based on something like this:
8 Mt3 = 10 tonne therefore he's saying that you should be paying 50 or 60 euro per tonne.

Wait til the cold weather kicks in and value will go up, if its all cut up bag in and sell it door to door.

3 bags a tenner and your on a winner, people do buy it.

Steven81 - yes, milkprofit could be on to a winner by selling firewood door to door.......NEXT YEAR - after he has chopped, split and dried the wood so it has a moisture content of less tham 20%. If he sells it this Autumn/winter, then he will be selling it as an inferior product ie: <20% moisture - and in doing so will give both himself, and the firewood trade a bad name.:(

Others have put it in context but I will tell you that such a load went for 400€ uncut in 2011. Old lad bought a load that we had to cut up of ash thinings ranging 4 to 6" diameter, similar truck. That is all it is worth in uncut, unsplit and unseasoned state.
