Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

3GS cannot see home wifi, ip4 can

Today the 3GS (on ios6 since a week) decided "feck it I'm not going to see the wifi router any more".
But I can see the router from my ip4 (also ios6) so it's not a router issue imo.

I reset network settings on the 3gs twice, no joy.
Set router from WPA to unsecured, no joy.

I started Personal Hotspot on the 4 and the 3gs did see that, and could join it, so it's not an antennae issue I think.

Have you tried manually setting the ssid and password. Instead of picking a ssid when you go to wifi tap other and type the ssid. Set the security and password and it should stay working

Yeah I gave it a new ssid, like "Biko" without spaces or underscores or similar.

Your router may need a firmware update

what's the make and model of router

I meant on the iPhone aswell. When you go into wifi forget the connection and instead of picking Biko tap other and enter Biko as the ssid. It will ask you what security it has and then ask for the passcode. Since setting it that way I haven't had a problem with wifi

Netopia 2247-02 on Software Version 7.8.0r2, I don't think there is a newer fw for this.

Ok I'll try that again, I did it once but might have used all lower case in ssid on phone.

Yeah make sure you enter it exactly the same as is on the router. Eg my ssid is NETGEAR and it failed if I just entered netgear

This happened with my 3GS today.
I pressed settings~ general ~ reset ~ reset network settings.
It picked up the wifi and just had to enter password and it worked.

try change the wifi channel on the router and see if that works

Change the Channel on the wireless radio on the router. It will be in the wireless settings. Change it to somewhere between 1 and 9. 3GS can't see higher than 9.

Set it to channel 2 and also 1 but alas no joy there.

No joy there either. "Could not find the network "Biko"

I suppose next step is to reinstall ios6 but since it did work for a week or more I'm reluctant to do that just yet.

How about reserving the MAC address of the 3GS on the router and restarting both and try again

    looks like a router problem

some other users getting same problems 3gs not connecting to Netopia 2247-02

    http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-900180.html

they ended up buying a new router a different make

Ok, an update. Turns out the wifi on the 3gs is working, it's just damn weak.
I was fiddling about with the phone next to the router and it picked up the signal, but only as long as I'm very close to the router. If I leave the room with it the signal dies.

Looking around the net it seems it's a common issue and can have several reasons, one being the solder is cracking on the antennae inside.
