Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi
Can anyone give me an idea on what a person would expect to earn from writing a school book for leaving cert subject. My sister is writing one and is in talks with publishers but they only seem to be offering loyalty fee there is no talk about the actual payment for the writing of it. Is this normal practice?

    Regards

Royalties are paid as a percentage of the cost of the book. If the book is €20 and the royalty fee is 10% then she would get €2 out of every book sold. The more she sells the more she makes.

If it is indeed a loyalty fee it would sound like a flat fee paid for writing the book. That wouldn't be normal, but royalties are completely normal.

The amount she makes would depend on the subject, a common subject would have probably a larger market (English, Irish, Maths etc) but there would also be more competition in the market as several publisher would have a book for the subejct. A smaller less common subject would see smaller sales but might also have less competition.
