I can't believe so many of us are sick - hope there's been some improvements over the day and you'll all be feeling better soon. It must be horrible being ill with all the worries that it brings.

Re Paracetamol, I've been told by a number of doctors including consultant that it is fine to take in pregnancy up to normal dose, though I still saved it for really bad headaches etc. However recently I have been taking 2 every night before bed on the off chance it might help me get some sleep. It's probably better for the babies for us to be feeling good, rested and healthy anyway, though it does feel weird. There's always something to worry about!

Blueskye, that's great your scan went well.. Reassuring you're getting the steroids too in case you go early.

i was suffering from migraines early on in the pregnancy and the doctor gave me solpadol said it was ok, i took one of the tablets but just felt so out of it the next day i decided not to take them again when pregnant. I generally go to bed when i have the migraines.

    Plenty of rest ladies.

As far as the dentist goes,i go 2 times a year for cleaning and a checkup. I would be interested to see what the dentist makes of my teeth too. I recently put in a reverse osmos system, it takes the fluroide out of the water.( our water was undrinkable ) so we decided to put it in. I wont be exposing my baby to this toxin. I get all the fluoride i need with toothpaste. Theres some seriously scary statistics about fluoride in you water. Thats a debate for another day. ill stop before ye thing im a raving looney lol

Murdy can you get fillings when ur pregnant?i know theres a chapter in my book on looking after ur teeth before you get pregnant and so on.

Yeah, I think it is ok, had a bit of a chat with the dentist about it. He jst said he wouldn't do x-rays. I didn't ask if I can get a local anaesthetic but I will certainly be finding that out when I go back next week! Really noticing my baby brain at the moment. I'm normally quite sharp but I've got so forgetful!

The dentist did say that your teeth do get a bit better after you have the baby, so anything you have wrong now may improve if you go to get it checked out. Unfortunately cavities do not fill themselves! I was so annoyed earlier, I've been so careful with my teeth and then the baby comes along and that's it, it all goes to hell in a handbasket!

I meant to say, I've taken paracetamol 5/6 times for headaches when I couldn't stand it anymore. I always thought it was a bit crap, I love my nurofen but it's surprisingly effective. I'll be remembering that! I think we need to be able to take something, so many different pains that we need an option when things get bad!

As they say Murdy, it's better than a kick in the head (the paracetamol that is!!) although I'd much rather a nurofen plus. Mmmm Codeine! Miss it much more than drink. After the baby comes, I'll be hitting all the hard stuff :D

I meant to ask you all, if you're feeling movements, where exactly are you feeling them? I keep getting a sort of prod really deep inside down where I imagine my bowel/bladder/intestines are. It gives me a sort of jolt! Not kicking at the front, as I imagined it would be like. The baby was breech at the scan so it makes sense I guess, though maybe it's just how the anterior placenta makes the movements feel like.

I feel the movements there too - and on my left side, It's a weird feeling, isn't it?! it feels quite deep too

I'm imagining you on a post baby codeine high now! :D

I really miss neurofen and red wine!!! I take a zirtek daily for allergies, supposedly ok when pregnant but still feel really guilty taking it. But I 'd be a wreck if I didn't.

Ya I heard that about pregnancy wrecking our teeth. Must get mine looked at.

I feel the kicks really low in my stomach, almost down in pelvic area, thought they would be higher but when I get scanned, babies are much lower than I expected them to be. So I guess that's why.

I Hope everyone is feeling better today.

Yeah id be the same as you blueskye, kicks are pretty low.

Does anyone else feel like going on a spending spree,so much to get,but the cute things totally get in the way and distract.

You poor thing - would you not go to your GP for a bit of reassurance. Don't worry about the baby, from what I've read it seems that they are like a parasite inside you! They take first place in your body and get first dibs on all the good nutrients - so they'll be fine but you'll be left like a wreck!

KK - I feel flutters a bit inside myself about two or three fingers under my bellybutton....but if you're breech, from the looks of this image http://www.childbirthconnection.org/article.asp?ck=10240 you'd be feeling it really deep down.

    Get well soon!

Hope everyone is feeling better and having a good weekend. Went to the shops for a short while today (really felt the effects on the hips though, lots of pain since). Got a couple of tops in New Look, unfortunately they didn't have any maternity jeans/trousers in my size. H&M unfortunately had put away their maternity stuff as they are renovating. Think I'll be OK with leggings/jeggings and the bump band thing for now. Couldn't resist buying a little hat for baby. It was tiny :)

Hey I'm due in June aswell (no 3) and I have so many pains its not funny. I have SPD (http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a546492/pelvic-pain-spd) and its bad, I had it on my last pregnancy aswell. I have not been able to go form one job to the other without sitting down for a rest, so going to town is out of the question and I so need pants/leggings trousers or anything. Worst part is I know its going to get worse, I swear this is like whats its like to get old.
Is anyone else waiting on physio appointments?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,518 ✭✭✭krankykitty

Hi aknitter, welcome to the thread and congrats on your pregnancy. How far along are you?

I have pelvic girdle pain which I think is something related to SPD. Did you get treatment for it on your previous pregnancy? I got an appointment straight away, but I am going private which might be the reason. If you have the cash maybe it's worth going to see a private physio? They usually cost around 50 or so a session. The advice I got was basically get as much rest (lying down) as possible, don't do too much walking/driving/standing and if you do have to do it, try to balance with rest. I also have a support belt and got a letter about working from home one day a week. Pillow between the knees when sleeping.

I know what you mean about getting to town, I only got to the shops for the first time in a good while for about an hour today, and was in a fair bit of pain towards the end of it. My husband drove me to the shopping centre and I had earmarked a couple of shops I wanted to visit so that helped, rather than wandering around aimlessly. I got my mother to pick me up a couple of tops/bottoms in Penneys recently also, perhaps you have someone who would do that for you and return them if they're not suitable? New Look and Asos have nice maternity stuff on their website that you can get delivered, though it can be annoying not being able to try the stuff on first.

Hope you get your appointment soon... It seems like the physio is just really to keep you ticking over though (she explained that as the muscles/ligaments are stretched by the hormones, whatever it is she does to put the hips back in place doesn't stick)

Hey all feeling lot better today was bad virus over weekend. Looking forward getting out some air today !
That's awful so many u getting hip problems so soon! Terrible be in pain like that!
Glad u managed some shopping! I definitely hav get measured and bras this week! Chest has totally changed and need work trousers too! Think top shop so good ones and will get so much wear next few months'
Weekends are fine it's just awkward dressing for work really!

  • Registered Users Posts: 438 ✭✭sunshiner

Went shopping today the best place was h&m for maternity clothes lots of a selection.

    Hows everyone feeling today?

Thanks Krankykitty - I am heading for 19 weeks due the end of June. Don't get me started on the lack of treatment I got last time - my GP at the time told me not to worry he'd sign me off work! I didn't want that but no talk of going to physio or belts or how to relieve the pain - apart from paracetamol. By the time I knew I need hep the physio appointment in the hospital would take too long so I went private and got great relief they were amazing but not specialists in pregnancy related issues. We have since moved to Cork and the hospital and GP are so much better really helpful. I was told I would have to wait 6 weeks for an appointment so should have one in 3 weeks (am calling to make sure they got letter etc). I may have to private but I really want to deal with someone who knows about this. I now know that some pains I was getting around the time of my period is related to this.
And yes I know all the tricks! I recommend a hot water bottle and get into the car butt first and bring in both legs together, get out both legs first (imagine you are wearing a short skirt and the paparazzi are waiting for you!) and do the same getting out of bed. Try not to carry anything heavy - I have 21 month old son who is big for his age so its not so easy. I did Pilates after last time and it really helped tone up all of me and not just my nether regions! But the biggest weight off me is this time around I am at home so I don't have to worry about work! sorry paid employment :)
I need to get to town alright. I will try to plan as you have and hit the shops. A few people have mentioned H&M so will give them a check.
Hope everyone has had a pain free weekend and things are progressing nicely!

  • Registered Users Posts: 438 ✭✭sunshiner

Meant to say welcome aknitter. Wow that sounds terrible you poor thing. I hope your appointment goes well. What date are you due?

Good luck with the shopping it felt so good to have a choice today. cork shops suck for selection of maternity clothes.

Welcome aknitter! Sorry to hear you're in so much pain, it really sounds horrible :(

Hope everyone had a nice weekend, I really enjoyed the cat toilet song video! I am a certified crazy cat lady though so anything with cats is good for me.

I had a quiet weekend, I met friends for lunch on Saturday but that was it. I'm still feeling zombified, just walking around in a daze, sleeping all the time and when I'm awake I just don't feel with it. It's strange. I'm off to the doctor today just to get the sharp pains in my abdomen checked out. I was going to cancel but mum and hubby persuaded me to go. I had low bood pressure last time I was there which apparently can make you very tired because less blood is getting to your brain so probably good to go anyway and get it checked.

I'm 20 weeks today! Half-way \o/ This time three weeks I'll still be at home in bed as well, instead of in work. Handing my notice in today, wish me luck ladies!

This day next week is also my anomaly scan - the excitement!

Hope everyone is feeling better, and viruses etc have cleared up. Not nice being sick at the best of times but it's horrible when you're pregnant.

aknitter - hopefully you're having a good pain day today. There might be private physios around the place that are specialist in pregnancy, though maybe they're not as thick on the ground as "normal" ones? I was at the physio this morning and again she was saying it's really all about balancing rest (seems like rest gets priority though :( ) and activity, and also figuring out what activities seem to aggravate it the most. It's grand for me to get rest but I don't envy anyone who has other children to take care of. I think it's actually mentally draining as much as anything else, being in pain and having to think about what you can and can't do.

Murdy, hope your check up at the doctors goes ok and the pain is nothing to worry about (and something they can help fix for you!) Are they on one side/low/high?

Sunshiner, hopefully you can get sorted online with some maternity gear. There are a few floaty shirts in Penneys at the moment, and jeggins that might work well.

Anitter hope u get some relief and help from physio soon sounds terrible
    Best luck in doctor murdywurdy!
Last night was most movement I ever felt off baby and then it woke me up at 4 am and kept moving and getting stronger! Such an exciting feeling!
I am glad to be over virus and back to self now today ! Really take for granted when we well!
I am going go at lunch to get chest measured! I feel they hav doubled and are tender lately! Anyone else alot chest growth???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,518 ✭✭✭krankykitty

    Hi Lynda,

Glad you feel better from your virus, you're right you do appreciate feeling good after being sick or in pain! Haven't really had the growth but probably a bit more volume lol. Haven't had to buy any new bra.

The movements is exciting all right, I think i am feeling less strong movements than I would if I didn't have the anterior placenta, but there's quite a party going on in there from time to time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭MurdyWurdy

Notice has been handed in, boss was very good and said he knew that I was having a hard time and that it was a pity I wasn't able to give this job my all but these things happen and you have to look after yourself. So, I finish up in three weeks :)

Pain is on my lower abdomen in the middle and is not crampy, but sharp. It also feels really hard there. I have IBS and I suspect it may be bowel related but we'll see what GP says! Most likely he'll tell me not to worry and it will be a wasted visit. I feel a bit silly going along but peace of mind is worth it :)

Lynda, so exciting about feeling the baby. My movements have started getting stronger too and it's exciting and also reassuring :)

Also, my boobs are ginormous (I was a DD to start with) - my husband says they are obscene. With all the weight i lost none of it came off there so they look a bit out of proportion at the moment! Good luck getting measured. I've been wearing maternity bras since I was about 6 weeks and they do make a difference, a lot more comfortable.

Has anyone looked at primary schools yet? (I know, I'm mad :D)

I looked at my old primary school and the child has to be 4 on 1st June of the year that you want them to start. So unless my child is born early he/she would be 5 starting primary school and probably older than a lot of his/her classmates. I just thought that was interesting, it was one of the concerns about having a summer baby. I think 5 is quite late to start school, knowing what I was like as a kid but maybe it's more normal now?

Another school we're interested in it's that they have to be 4 by 1st September and you can put their name down from birth. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis so I think I'll send in an enrolment form later in the year. I bet people are really competitive for places!

Welcome aknitter :) hopefully you're not waiting too long to be seen. Sounds v painful.

Glad to hear you're over yr virus Lynda. I've have had to get new bras twice so far this pregnancy, my boobs are enormous at the moment. Found Debenhams the best, nice and soft.

Hope the abdominal pain isn't serious Murdy. Best to get it checked out. Not long til your scan now, you must be excited :) do you feel relieved having handed in your notice?

I've had a look at one primary school which I'd love boys to go to but I didn't check age starting, must have a look at that. I've been looking at childcare options too. Lots to think about.

I feel bad but kinda wishing this pregnancy over already. Couldn't sleep til all hours last night, terrible heartburn and just couldn't get comfortable in bed. I feel huge and have v little energy. Not feeling my usual self, kindof want my body back. But feel bad as its only a short time in my life. Can anyone recommend a decent pregnancy pillow?

So relieved! It just wasn't working for us at all. I feel slightly worried about money etc but I know as well that we will be ok. We don't have huge expenses, we'll just need to be a bit more careful with the pennies. Tbh, not working will save me money as well so that's a positive thing.

DYING for my scan!! :) Hopefully we can find out the sex. This time next week I'll have been in. Can't believe I'm halfway already but then like you I want the pregnancy to end. Fed up already, what will I be like in 10/15 weeks time!

Blueskye - they expect you to go early, don't they? In May? so you'd probably have no problems with school age. My husband is not Irish and he didn't start school until 6 so he was a bit confused about how it works when we're talking about it. I just know myself and my bro were raring to go to school at 4 (and my bro only turned 4 the July before starting school) so I'm not sure about starting them at 5. I guess it depends on how mature and bright the child is. It's just interesting to think about and mad that some schools you have to put them down from birth!

How's finding childcare for twins? I'd imagine it will be quite expensive. That's something I don't have to plan for but I was thinking of maybe doing some childminding in my own home when the baby is a bit older, as I'll be a stay at home mum anyway.

Money is always a worry I think but mum being well is so important too.

Ah ok, ya they'll be born in May. Wow 6 is old to start school. I think I was 5.

I'd like to take as much leave as possible but financially we'll have to weigh it up as my maternity leave goes. I get paid for 6 months which is great but would like to take longer. I also hope to go back to a 4 day week. My parents have offered to mind them 1 day a week and my partner may be able to do a day so it might not work out too bad. I'd like to get someone to come into the house or else a childminder v closeby. I'd love to work less, I like my job so wouldn't want to give it up totally but would love if I could work part time but we can't afford that and I don't think my employer would facilitate it either. Maybe going to work will turn into a break :)

Yeah, it's a fine balancing act of being home and at work for the desired amount of time to keep you financially secure/sane! It's hard for most women and if I was in a permanent job I enjoyed then I might not be so eager not to work. In saying that, I am lucky that I can stay at home if I want to, (but obviously with sacrifices). Unfortunely, not many jobs have room for flexibility/working from home as well. I know if I had even the chance of that possibility I wouldn't have handed my notice in so soon but it's just not feasible with my job.

Great that your parents have volunteered to help out for one day! My mum is going part-time at work in a few months so said she'll be over to me to help out more. I plan to sleep while she takes baby for long walks!!

    that sounds nice murdy

Im so angry at myself, i was doing some major housework and all of a sudden i get a bad sharp pain down my back and leg, loose sensation in my leg. Cant walk or do anything now without pure agony. Gona see how it is in the morning. If no improvement ill try go to a physiotherapist as thats what a doctor will eventually refer me to.
