Strange surname in 1901 and 1911 census

Hoping someone can help. Tracing family tree and in the 1901 census it says there is a 1 year old grandson with the surname "Tallaght" living with the family. NOBODY else in the family has this name!

Then in the 1911 census, most of the children have left the homestead. The 'grandson' by the surname Tallaght has also disappeared but instead there is a 9 year old niece there by the name of "Tallet"!

It makes no sense to me whatsoever. Such a surname does not exist! What happened the "grandson" called "Tallaght" between 1901 and 1911 where he just vanishes only to be replaced by a 9 year old niece by the surname of "Tallet" in 1911???!! I can't find ANY records of anyone else called "Tallaght" or "Tallet" in the family. It's bizzare and has really thrown me! Any help appreciated!

And it appears that this "Tallaght/Tallet" person is not the same as in 1901 it's Francis Tallaght aged 1 and in 1911 it's bridget Tallet aged 9. This surname doesn't even appear to be a real surname so I can't search Church records!!

I checked RootsIreland.ie for a child called Francis born in Mayo to a woman named Neary in the two years surrounding 1901 and the surname that came up then was Tollett born 1899.

There were four children baptised to a woman called Neary and a man called Tollett in Mayo according to those records, they were:
Mary (there were 3 different Mary's one baptised Tollett 1896, one Tollet 1897, one Tallet 1898)
William 1898
Francis 1899
Patrick 1900

There was this family of Tallott's in Belmullett 1901

William & Mary match as parents for Patrick and Mary (there were two marys one in 1897 and one in 1898) and one in mentioned above though the surname is spelled Tallet/Tollet/Tollett on each record.

The birth of Francis was indexed as both Tollet and Tallet, and it seems he died in 1902 - listed as Tallat.

There is a death record for a Mary Tallat for 1898.

This is that Mary & William in 1911, they had 10 children and 4 had died by 1911

If this is all the one family it looks like they had 4 Mary's in total as there was one in the 1911 census with them also.

just two people one person with the surname Tallaght in all of Ireland on Griffith's - both named Mary, and in the Belmullet area, although it could be the one person with two holdings :

A bit out of left field this (excuse the pun) but as a baseball lover and Toronto Blue Jays fan, I can tell you a Brian Tallet used to play for the team. His is the only example of the name I've ever seen.

Have been looking and it seems very hit and miss as to who's who!!!

There is a family tree on ancestry with an Anthony Tallot from Belmullet http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/26778554/person/12563263348

It seems William Tallet from this census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Mayo/Belmullet/Belmullet/707948/ isn't on the 1901 Census...

Maybe getting one of the kids birth certs that were born between 1901 and 1911, there may have been a second marriage for either of the parents..
