Inconsistent rules/modding in Afterhours

    I made a joke in the missing 5 year old April thread and was told not to post in that thread again. It seems that only certain tragic events can be joked about in After-hours but the problem is how is someone meant to know which ones? From observation it seems that once they aren't Irish or from the UK then they are fair game and any sort of comment can be passed. Just wondering why this is allowed or why the rules/modding is this inconsistant? Few examples

    Lads makes a joke about the guy in Dublin dying after a waste truck accident. Huge outrage, posts deleted and two guys banned from the thread.

    A Chinese fella gets crushed by Steamroller. People have a laugh about it, some say it shouldn't be allowed. Mod says no more jokes 3 pages in, no bans or warnings.

    Seems very difficult to understand if you can or can not joke about certain issues. Should there be a set rule when talking about tragic events that it isn't allowed? Leaving it up to the mods discretion doesn't seem like a wise move.

    That's pretty much it, as far as I can tell.

    Although usually the OP will indicate if the thread was open for shocking or mocking purposes.

    Your "joke" was tasteless and not funny, nor was in in keeping with the tone of the thread and only served to flame. Context is everything.

    Irish related stories will always be treated differently. Firstly, these incidents are in our legal jurisdiction and secondly people related to the stories have every chance of reading the threads about it.

    So that's the rule then, once not local they are fair game?

    There is one: don't be a dick.

    It amazes me how vehemently folk will argue for their right to be offensive on the internet.

    This is not Feedback, there is no case to be made.
