Just preparing some things for a new build of mine. Anyone running an i5 2500k with a good motherboard under that price? I'm looking to OC to maybe 4.0 - 4.5 on a water cooled solution. Can go a little higher than €150 so I had my eye on this particular motherboard:

If someone could steer me in the right direction to make the right choice it'd be much appreciated! :)

There's very little between many of the boards in that price region. It might only make a difference if you're getting into extreme overclocking. Otherwise, you should be looking at other features the motherboards offer.

Also keep an eye on what the prices are now. The Z77A-G45 is good for the price, but you could get more features if you're spending additional money.

You can't really go wrong with ASrock. They usually can't be beaten on price/feature ratio and are owned by Asus.

A comparable board from them would be

The boards are only worth it if you really want/need the extra features. In most cases cheaper boards like the pro 3 or 4 will overclock just as much as the more expensive boards.

There might be a little more headroom on these more expensive boards but only if you are pushing things to the max and your cooling is up to the task. Depending on your 2500k I'd say 4.8ghz+ should not be a problem with decent water cooling. You would get this on even the cheaper pro boards though.

    TL/DR
Only get the pricier boards if you will make use of the extra features. The cheaper boards will overclock to the same levels in most cases.

Yeah I recently got the Asrock z77 extreme 6 and it's a beast. You can OC with like the click of 1 button in the BIOS.
