I am considering buying a property.
I want to know what price it was valued at at time of building in 1994

Revenue sugget to me that they cannot reveal amount of stamp duty paid as that would infringe personal data regulations. Land registery gave broadly similiar response.

How can i find out the original sale price or stamp duty paid ?
Is this information available in any public office or elsewhere. ?

Land registry and title deed fees are also going up substantially at the end of November, according to my solicitor.

I can't see many opportunities for getting the information unless you get the consent of the buyer or seller.

One category might be if you are an executor of an estate.

SAY it s a house for sale ,rathmines,
google the adress for sale 1994 ,
IT might show up on an online ad, or you could look in
a newspaper archive , or library, most houses are advertised online .
    or in a newspaper.
Theres loads of information on prices in most areas ,
in magazines, papers ,if you want a general price for a 3bed house in santry for example.

I don't think most houses were advertised online in 1994!!! Even in newspapers most prices were not advertised back then, the it was all POA.

I don't think there is any way to find out OP.

Ask the original estate agent or solicitor.

Just wondering- why does it matter?
Stamp duty is a transaction based tax.
A historic transaction- is a historic transaction- and will have no bearing on current or future transactions (and the taxes related to them).
Just because stamp duty x was paid on the property when it sold in 1994 (for example) means absolutely nothing concerning potential stamp duty obligations if it changes hands tomorrow morning.

I believe the online price register only goes back to 2010 because thats when the returns went online, and eventually older sales are also going to be listed once they've found enough monkeys/Jobbridge interns to enter the data.

On that basis I don't see a problem with the revenue or the PRSA giving out the older information manually - I'd guess they don't want to have to send people digging through the paper archives to find it.

Or gift tax, If it is for tax purposes, Revenue may be able to access the data to calculate liability.
