I've bought phones from them that were unlocked. Plus, it makes sense from their point of view.

depends on the suppliers pal, some are , some aren't its hit or miss to be honest, i wouldn't rely on it.

If im correct the is locked.

It depends a lot. Some phones are generic which are sold on several networks. Some of them are specific like O2 and Vodafone usually are locked.

The only other reason they are ever unlocked if their a brand new phone and their pushing it out quick to meet the demands (like my HTC Titan, Vodafone branded but it was unlocked)

I'd never count on a phone being unlocked.

If you buy it from carphone warehouse it should be unlocked any way.

My wife asked a manager in the CPW today if a 48 sim would work in the 800 and he told her a 48 sim would not work in any phone they sell, I assume he is telling porkies there?

If a phone is locked to one network it will only work with one network. O2 has an offer to attract new customers vis promotions like this. They obviously don't want you to buy their discounted phone and then go somewhere else.

If you are with 48 you will need a SIM free phone

Mine Lumia was unlocked when I bought it. (in Finland).

I bought a Lumia 800 yesterday in CPW for 200 on the O2 deal. It is simfree!

I don't want the phone. You can have it for 200.

    Sold.

Hey can anyone who bought this phone me tell if its worth buying?

This phone is free with emobile on a 12 month contract- Select 300 plan is currently half price- €22.37 (300 mins, 300 txts, 2gb data). So you get a years service for an extra €68 over the price of the phone on O2.

Thats a good offer alright. I haven't seen an unlock for a 800 on emobile, is the only drawback.

That offer seems to be SIM only?
Scratch that. It seems you do have the option to select a phone if you pick the 12 month contract option as an eircom customer.

The 12 month contract option as an Eircom customer is €44.73/month?

I wonder would this also work with the Unlimited plan on 12 month contract?

I'm struggling to see how the 50% discount applies to the 12 month contract. As far as I can see this plan remains €44.73, whereas the SIM only plan is half-price at €22.37. Am I missing something?

Same here, I went through as far as step 5 and it still showed up as 44euro /month (even while quoting an eircom account number)

I haven't gone through fully with a purchase yet as I have to give 30 days notice on my current plan. Perhaps it is not available on the 12 month plan.
Edit: Just went through it in more detail. Seems it is only on Sim only. I think they have updated the website since last week to make this clearer (or maybe I just didn't read it right last week:o)

Maybe a stupid question but does Sim only mean no free phone?

FWIW I've had this phone for several months and I think it's terrific.

The ONLY thing I wish it had is an 'orientation lock' feature for reading on the kindle app. Other than that it's got every app and feature I've wanted. No front facing camera but I've never wanted to use one.

The app store must be quite limited though?

    check it out:
    http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/featured-apps

I suppose it depends on what you want. Nokia drive is great for offline GPS navigation, and it has the must-haves like Angry birds, skype, etc...

Is it just me or did they start selling the cyan colour now?

This offer would be great, but Vodafone give so little data allowance on pre pay and bill

It's unlocked on Amazon for £159 with Free Delivery (about €198). Not as good as above, but i don't know what they are like to unlock.

This is a better option if your not planning to use it on Vodafone. Heard shops quoting around 60 euro to unlock

Saw one for the first time in a Vodafone store on Saturday. It's a fantastic looking phone.

Just a heads up, this is available for €150 on meteor.ie and its in stock apparently. They have it in black and white. A terrific phone for the money in fairness. At €150, thats quite a bit cheaper than amazon.co.uk who have it for £160

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

I can't find any place that unlocks these. I think I'd go for an unlocked on as I need it on O2 and they are sold out. Unless you want it in Pink. (I am tempted). Needs a micro sim. Just to be aware of that.

€149 for a Lumia is dirt cheap. You won't get such a well spec'ed phone for so little.

  • Registered Users Posts: 713 ✭✭✭soirish

Meteor will unlock your Lumia 800 if you have at least 2 bills paid or have topped up by €130 since you registered the phone.

Here is how to unlock your phone:

Call 1905 for Bill Pay and 1747 for PAYG and request unlock code.

Once you get the code from you must do the following:

1 - Switch on your Nokia without any sim card.
    2- Compose #pw+CODE+1#.
3- The Nokia would then display the message "SIM Restriction Off" and will be unlocked!

Meteors new policy is you will get your unlock code at the end of your contract

and as this is a windows phone there is no pw+1 needed just an eight digit unlock code which is asked for when you insert an incorrect sim

Lumia 800 is now €179.99 with 25 euro gift card for Awear/Easons/Elverys Sports. Also comes in Pink, so this house was forced to get one for an upcoming birthday

Great phone at this price and I am getting double call credit on the one I got back in October for next 6 months :D

BTW, same phone was €430 just 2 weeks ago on O2 in the Carphone warehouse
