Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looks to me like "1 Upper Gloucester North(?) St".

I think it's Upper Gloucester Street - the North bit may be to differentiate between the one near City Quay and the one off Sean McDermott street?

agree with '1 Upper Gloucester North St.'. This ran from Marlborough St. to Gardiner Street Lwr.

Gloucester St. South was south-side and off Townsend St.

I was not aware that there were two Gloucester Streets; that's why I was unsure about "North". Yes, I think lottpaul has clinched it.

thanks for all the input and speedy replys.

I have been trying to find out if this particular Michael Canning was a relative of mine. He was killed in WW1 and I can't say if it's him 100% or not.

The Michael Canning I am looking for was born 1885 Glouster Place so this may be him. I can't get an age of death for the KIA.

    Yes thats him.

the problem I am having with him is that I cant find his age or next of kin.

If anybody can point me in the right direction I would be glad of the help.

I have tried all the usual places , Ancestry , FMP , CWGC , SDGW etc.

And if it is, here is his brother, possibly the one who was at Upper Gloucester Street: http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/fdb26a0210331

That him and his brother. I have seen them before and used that site to find his family.

The CWGC link is the Michael Canning that may be my relative but I cant prove a connection unless I find out the age or next of kin for the MC KIA.

Again thanks to all for the help.

I suspect that you may have exhausted all the online resources. There might be more information in British military records held in Kew.

I'm under the impression that Ancestry has put up military records in conjunction with the UK NA. I found one great grandfather's record there but not another (this was a while back). I can give you the name of a reliable researcher in Kew who I used to find other military records - his prices were reasonable too.

I gather that some of the records were indexed and digitised, but others were not; further, some records were destroyed during WW2. But there is a lot available in Kew that you won't find online.

I recently used a researcher in Kew. If you decide to hire somebody, please PM me, as I can give you some feedback that might be helpful.
