Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I thought the terminal velocity of a human being would not have broken the sound barrier. Is it because of jumping from so high up that this can be done ?

There is no air up there to slow him down...

the terminal velocity depends on the density of the air he is falling through, up at 120,000 feet the air is very thin so he will break the sound barrier

    God this is slow

as air thins theres less friction. less friction faster speeds...

as he descends he'll slow down because of friction

Upon a little digging (thanks snowie) it does appear to have three windows but it would appear that they have the curtains pulled for this flight.

Its so he doesn't get blinded by the sun, at very high altitude the sun light isn't dissipated as much as it is on ground level by the atmosphere.

Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff

    This is Ground Control
    to Major Tom
    You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
    if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
    I'm stepping through the door
    And I'm floating
    in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

    For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
    Far above the world
    Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

    Though I'm past
    one hundred thousand miles
    I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much
    she knows

    Ground Control to Major Tom
    Your circuit's dead,
    there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?

Anyone found the feed starting to buffer a lot in the last few minutes? Just as long as they get it sorted before he steps outside!

They are talking about dumping some ballast to increase ascent speed. It was 4.5m/s but has dropped to 3.2m/s.

    Update: 60lbs of ballast dropped.

Closer to 7pm, about 30 mins ago the commentary said he'd reach jump height in about 2 hours.

70,000 feet. I'm guessing he'll reach the target altitude at around 6:30.

I don't know about you, but I'm not watching constantly, rather I'm checking in occasionally. So the regular updates aren't a problem for me.

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.
