Just got news today that I'm being put on a 3 day week. Can't believe it. I start next week.
Do I contact social welfare myself? Does the employer do that? How long before I get money for the 2 days I'm not working? What else am I entitled
I don't know where to start...........all the info online is confusing me.
Can anyone explain in simple terms please?

Next week on the first day you have no work go down to your local social welfare office, inform them of the situation re work. There will be forms to fill in for you and your employer. How long before you get payed from the social will depend on your claim (JSB or JSA)and how busy the office is.

I known one company who put there staff on a 3 day week a few months ago due to lack of work at the time.
The owner went into the dep of social welfare to find out what they needed to put there the staff on a 3 day week and to get the forms to do this. Your employer needs to do this week and get the forms into them asap.
By the end of this week you need to get a letter from your employer on there headed paper stating that you are been put on a 3 day week.
One you get sorted out you will fill in what is known as a casual docket - you fill in the days you work, your employer signs it and you bring it to your local welfare office. Always keep a copy of this for your own records and in case it goes missing in the welfare office.
Welfare will issue a cheque for the days you don't have work.
Also your employer will need to pay you for any Bank Holidays and over Christmas there are some bank holidays.

There is no obligation on the employer to approach SW at all. Its up to the employee to start a claim.
