Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Replacing USB port on laptop

Hi. One of the USB ports on my laptop (acer) got damaged. I think something must have fallen on a cable that was attached or something. The little tab on the inside was bent down and cracked in 2, and the 4 little metallic contacts are bent out of shape. Its beyond being able to fix by the looks of it. I'm reasonably handy at PC/Laptop disassembly & maintenance, is it possible to totally replace a USB port on a laptop? If so, is it reasonably straightforward, or does it involve tiny soldering points to the motherboard? I do have a soldering iron but would be reluctant to go near the motherboard with it.

    thanks in advance

There are small soldering points attaching them to the motherboard.
Also, you have to be sure that they are the right size. As they are not all the same size.

Som are longer at the back, some have "legs", some are soldered upside down.... etc.
