Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,
I've just seen a couple of you mention KEW. I'm trying to find out more info about my Grandfather, G grandfather and GG grandfather. I know that they were all part of the armed forces. I have hit a brick wall here and am going to go over to KEW, my question is, have any of you been and if so any tips on carrying out the research to make the most of my time as it will most likely just be for one day.
    Thanks

If you have only one day, you would be better off spending the money on a researcher who already knows their way around.

First, look on Ancestry to see what military records they have online. You might not need to go. Before you either get a researcher or go yourself, you want to have as much concrete data about the person as possible, i.e.

    Name
    Date of birth (preferably)
    Regiment
Approx career dates (i.e. just WW1 or earlier too)
    Place of birth
    Name of next of kin

These things will help to identify the correct person.

Thanks pinky, i will get as much info , not proving easy though, and see what comes up. I have to go over anyway within the next few weeks so if I still haven't got any futher with the research I will pay it a visit anyway with the info I already have.
