Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This 15.6" Fujitsu Laptop comes with a much faster processor (2nd gen Core i3), €389 at LD.

cheers Torqay, but I would prefer not to buy one online,

Well, you'll hardly find a laptop with 2nd generation Core i3 processor in any B&M store in Ireland for less than 400 yoyos.

So, if you don't want to buy online, you'll have to settle for an underperformer or raise your budget. ;)

But before you buy that B800 Celeron, look around and see if you can find some older Core i3 370M/380M within your budget.

Might sound like a very basic question but will a computer with just say 4 gigs (or 6gb) of RAM be very noticeably slower with the B800 Celeron processor rather than the Core i3?

same as BillJ, as i said it wont be used for heavy work i.e gaming or software uses etc, just used for browsing the net, email and word documents

Yes they are significantly slower. Modern web browsers can be quite demanding with plenty open tabs. So are modern 64 bit operating systems. The B800 is slower than a 6 year old T5600 Core 2 Duo notebook processor for example. Something I wouldn't really consider fit for purpose anymore.

And don't worry much about RAM, memory is easily upgraded if need be, not so the processor.

Just looking at those Argos machines,
    This one looks pretty okay:
    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5087176.htm

Plenty of processing power, 4GB RAM, and 320GB drive. Not too bad, although you could probably do better if you shopped around.

    Actually, here's a better option:

You need to up your budget a tad, but it's a much better machine.

ah right thanks, just one other laptop i looked at here (http://www.currys.ie/Product/LENOVO-G580-156andquot-Laptop-Blue/314844/148)

i was curious what is the general opinion on these type of brands of laptops (medion, Asus, Leveno etc) as opposed to more common branded names HP dell, toshiba, are they more prone to problems or are they just as reliable?

    Asus: Very good brand
Lenovo: Used to be IBM, again, very well regarded.
    Medion: Don't touch
    Acer: I wouldn't

Plenty RAM and disk space but again a Celeron processor (although a faster model), not worth 420 yoyos.

As for brands, you're buying a low budget laptop so I wouldn't be too worried about the brand... although we all have brands we'd love to hate. Acer, Advent and HP in my case. ;)

so you think it would be a good enough laptop for the basics, internet word etc (btw the laptop is not for me, its for my parents)
