Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Instead of placing it in the bin?

Sometimes I leave the teabag out in case I've made the tea too weak. That way I can put the bag back in and give it another stir.

But then it goes in the bin. I don't leave it on the sink, or IN the sink, but I know people who do.

If you put it in the bin straightaway it'll drip on the floor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,659 ✭✭✭CrazyRabbit

To leave it to dry out a bit before putting it in the plastic bin bag.

I brew the arse out of each tea-bag 500 times, then I shove it in a pipe and smoke it.

    1. Bring the cup to the bin with the tea bag in it.

    2. Open bin.

    3. Hold cup over bin so rogue drips fall into bin.

    4. Squeeze teabag against inside of cup above water line

    5. Drop into bin.

    6. Sorted.

my moths family do this. the funny thing is, they have to walk past the bin to get to the sink!

I leave it in the cup, the tea spoon doesnt even come in to the equation, drop of milk. The tea gets stronger and stronger as I drink it, yum! As for where I put it when I'm finished, bin :) Or out the back "for the birds" :P

When we were back in school, many moons ago, there was a guy in our class with a brown patch on the side of his face (Birthmark). I remember one time, we were wondering where it came from and one of the lads said (We were 10, or thereabouts):

"I heard when he's bold, his dad ties a wet teabag to a piece of string and beats him with it."

I thought that by now some enterprising Wicklow woman would have brought in imported bin liners from Kilkenny

    Okay I lied.
In a small glass bowl beside the kettle, when that gets full it gets emptied in compost bin.

I do this because in the parents gaf all the teabags go in the sink. We have a gorilla / insinkerator which ate them up.

In my mums the tea bag goes into the sink, they have an insinkerator.

I don't drink tea at home, but when I do I put it in the bin.

I guess it just shows the level of sheep some people are.

Once upon a time it came to pass that someone had reason to put his/her teabag in the sink instead of in the bin. Perhaps the bin was overflowing. Someone else saw him/her and copied them, and someone else saw them, but the logic of why it was so got lost somewhere along the way. And so now you have the result today: millions of individuals mindlessly putting their teabags in the sink for no rational reason.

Cos it's too hot to go into a closed bin straight away. Or at least that's what I was brought up to believe, that if you put it in straight away it'll make the bin smell bad because the food in it starts to decay faster with the added heat. Stick it in the sink, let it cool, then scoop it out and into the bin. Simples.

Who cares if the bin smells bad, that's how bins are supposed to smell. Get one with a flip-lid, and I fail to see how it could make much difference anyway. You're saying if you put a hot tea bag next to a banana or something that in the time it takes the teabag to cool down that the banana will have decayed to such an extent that it will smell much worse? This is better though, at least it's a reason. Maybe it started with people avoiding throwing lots of hot stuff in the bin and they got into the habit of never throwing any even lukewarm stuff in the bin.

Personally, I make my tea using the coffee machine water. That avoids scalding the tea and damaging it, and it avoids waiting very long to drink it with the risk of scalding yourself, and the coffee machine keeps the water warm so you can do what you like and come back any time. I can't understand why anyone would do it any other way.

I prefer loose tea but if I use tea bags I put the used tea bag on a little ceramic tea pot shaped holder beside the sink.

And because I like my tea very weak and I hate waste I reuse it for another cup or another pot of tea before I throw it away.

    4. Squeeze teabag against inside of cup above water line

    .

you should never squeeze the tea bag!

Because the kettle is usualy beside the sink...

Apparently some people can read teabags and see the future. It doesn't work with pyramid or round ones though. Apparently.

Isn't that what the sink is for?
Ever since the introduction of the dish washer.
