Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anybody have/had a Varadero 1000 of these? I'm currently on a 650 gs, which is restricted, but since my restriction is up next week I'm starting to look at changing up.

Considering the Varadero but I don't know much about them, any good? My budget won't get me much newer than '00.

Never had one meself. few of the lads I know have had them and loved them. Some thump out of them with an aftermarket set of cans on them. Do it

    I just might!

I'll have to sell mine first though. And I would be sad to see it go. Also there might be an insurance problem, not sure how liberty feel about a 22 year old on a 1000cc bike.

Hmm that could be a deal breaker alright. When your ringing up the pretend that you already have the vardero 1000 and they might quote you. Friend of mine couldnt get quoted on a blade before, I told him to just ring up and tell them he has already purchased the bike and they quoted him straight away. Weird but sure if it works then happy days

Would you not give your own bike a new lease on life and take out the restriction? or have you always just fancied the varadero? ill be in the same boat soon enough cant wait to get my cbr full power.

Had one for a week on lend from a mate.
Thirsty bugger of an engine! Would make you cry after your gs!

Nice bike if a bit top heavy!

Look at a vstrom 1000, they come up cheap from time to time.

If you are riding a 650 restricted why not just get it unrestricted and see how you feel on it without the restriction before jumping to a 1000.

    +1

Have had the pleasure of a few spins on the Strom 1000, great bike very comfortable and plenty of grunt. Looks not to everyones taste but you will soon forget about that while riding it.

Are you definitely going for the big trailie type bike?
    What about something like this:
    http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/motorbikes/4031184

I've be on bikes for over 10 years, this is the first time I ever got something other than 3rd party. Check 3rd party only prices and get a fcuk off almax lock and chain.

I've been considering that too but its factory restricted so its fairly expensive to do.

What year is the GS? I have an 02 one here that I restricted myself. Its just a different position for the throttle cable on the housing and then a different throttle stop. Took me an hour all in to strip tank down, fit it and put everything together, and I aint no mechanic!!!

However I've found very little difference restricted/non restricted. As Wonda said before on another post its really only top end you notice a difference with!

If you are into trailies there are a few sites you should look over. http://www.adventurebikerider.com/, http://www.xrvireland.org/, http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/, and http://www.advrider.com/forums/index.php. Loads of ideas on there on what you could consider. Theres also an F800GS, which I'm led to believe is very frugal on petrol as well?

I had one afew years ago.

Loved it. Brilliant in the twisties but really built for the Motorway. It will keep up with most bikes out there. Around town is overkill.
The latest version is the better one to go for (among other things the mpg is about 40)

If you dont get one now, keep it on yer list!

The 800 is fairly new, he's looking to spend under 2k.

You may have just hit the nail on the head. Most of my riding is around town or on country roads (where the gs is as fast as anything). I'm probably mad to be considering changing.

I reckon I could pick up this Varadero for 1200.. Thats the main reason I'm considering it

If you're happy with the condition go for it. There's not many 1000cc bikes you can get for that money.

I took too long considering it and the bike is gone! Ah well.

Might just derestrict my own and see how it goes.

Or get a sportsbike... or a supermoto... or something!

...still cheaper to de-restrict yourown bike, than buy another one..........

I know a guy who had a Varadero 1000, and, great bike - but a killer on juice. 40mpg - if you're lucky.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
