Does anyone know where to get dawn to dusk type bulbs that go into the ceiling light like this in Ireland

I am also seeking the bulbs with timers that go into the ceiling light. As far as i know one can choose time to make lights go off and on as distinct from just dawn to dusk

I noticed your link brought me to a Maplin page, so there is your answer, they have a few shops in Ireland, google them.

Also did you post your query over with the electrical threads? I reckon the guys there might be able to help you better.

You just want to makes sure that the two connecting parts are a match.

If you've a bayonet style ceiling rose then you'll need a bayonet style timer/lamp holder then you'll need to see what type of bulb fit the timer/holder either bayonet type or ES (screw type)

Remember these use a light sensor to detect the light level rather than knowing dusk/dawn times so they can be affected by the lightshades and the general level of light the room normally gets when the weather is very overcast.

These dusk till dawn CFLs are ùnpredictable.

They can/will come on with any sort of shade from being indoors and on a dull/overcast day,they may stay on and not actually go off.

They are fiddly at the best of times.


Any good electrical wholesaler will have them in stock.

You might be better off changing the light switch to an RF type . That way you can have a wireless remote with a built in timer .

They also have dusk till dawn sensors that can control most of the gear
It's cheap enough too and I've been using them for over 4 years and have only had 1 relay socket fail

An uplighter floor lamp or 2 with a normal LED or CFL bulb plugged into a 24 hour/7 day programmable timmer will do the job just as good too....if its just for putting on some light in a sitting room or in a kitchen during dark hours.

Set the floor lights to different "on off" periods,so that it gives an exterior impression of people being in the house.

As do the the 24 hour/7 day timmers.;)

You can set them to come on and go off up to 8 times a day at various times during the day/night.

Digital 24/7 day timer is around 7 euro in most leccy stores/diy stores.:)

Just a quick qs can you switch off the light from the switch with the HE stuff or only the remote. Would love to be able to turn off landing and bedroom light from the leaba with the remote but want to have a switch that will work too.

Dust to off are better for security, they come on at dusk and stay on for 2,4 6 or 8 hrs, whichever you chose. I got them on amazon.
