Hey, I've been looking for information on Mini Jack Russell Terriers. There seems to be very little on the net. So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the dog as a pet and how they behave with Children and other Dogs?

My girlfriend and I will be picking up our new addition to the family at the end of the week and we're looking for as much information as possible, so we'll have the best start with the Dog.

Theres no such thing as a miniature Jack Russell, its just a Jack Russell, so thats probably why you cant find any info on them.

i have 5 of them. great pets. love attention and full of life. they're fine with other dogs as long as you socialise them while they're still young, otherwise they think they'll be able to take on the biggest wolfhound and win! they have no concept of their small size! the biggest problem i find is the barking when they get over excited about things so keep an eye on that and try and train them to quieten down when still young,

oh and be careful with them around fowl! i have 4 who are big hen and duck killers if given half a chance (remember they were originally bred to kill rats and suchlike) yet their mother doesn't bat an eye at them and i can leave her loose around them all day.

they really are great pets though. would be lost without my brood!

My Aunt had one, "Mitzi" Lovely temperament, very friendly. She never called it a miniature, she used to call it a "Short Legged" Jack Russell..

You may have better results searching that.

EDIT: No Way, just noticed your name, and Aunts dog :D:D

I think her dog was more pronounced "Mizzi" though... My sister used to call her Mitzi.. She never barked, but it was years ago, and we weren't there all the time.

There really is no such thing as mini/teacup when it comes to most breeds. Particularly the smaller breeds such as JRs and yorkies. There are breeds such as miniature pinscher, miniature schnauzer, miniature dachshund that are registered with the various KC worldwide. These dogs have been around for a hundred years or more and were bred for working purpose rather than looks.

What it actually means is breeders have been mating smaller dogs/runts of the litter with other smaller dogs to make the resulting puppies smaller - slap a designer name on them such as mini or teacup and they sound sooo much cuter:rolleyes: Problem is, being bred from runts who are the weakest/sickliest of their litters, usually ends means ending up with unhealthy puppies.

Mini jack russell s are not a breed of their own, they are just a smaller variety so if you are looking for information just research Jack russells in general. I've had jack russells all my life they are such amazing little dogs, so you made a great choice :D

As bb12 said always supervise them around small animals, they were bred to hunt and will do so regardless if you want them to or not. They are very quick to learn and can be taught just about every trick you can imagine. Make sure to look up "jessie the jack russell" on youtube and be amazed at what that little dog can do!

If I had the space I'd definetly have more than just one jack russell ! They adore people and children if their owners raise them properly, they are only a problem to society due to owners who should not have them in the first place. That's why so many of the poor little things are dumped in shelters

I have 3 Jackers, 2 of them less than 6kg, but they have HUGE personality :)

I do agility ando some obedience with one of mine and she is very good at it ( shame her handler isn't so good :D) although they are a small dog they need a HUGE amount of exercise and stimulation. A lot of their destructive and noisy behaviour is because people treat them as lap dogs and do not realise they are a working breed and can walk for a whole day with no signs of being worn out :D
