Hey lads, is it possible to catch a decent view of saturn through an skywatcher ED 80 even from the dublin region? Might cut out some study time and setup later if its possible. :)

I would think yes, what imaging device will you use? Almost every single images of Saturn I see are taken using Webcam / Dedicated imaging cameras...

What eyepieces do you have Ian? To get a decent view with the ED80 you'll need a high power eyepiece and a barlow will help. It'll be a very small view with the 28mm that comes with the ED80. Even still, it's definitely worth a look. Imaging will be less than satisfying.

Had forgotten about this thread. Took this one handheld in broad daylight recently - converted to black and white and hammered the contrast up.

Clear spell earlier so took out the Meade LXD75 Newtonian for some alignment and imaging practice, deepsky didnt work well with moon rising early and no so good alignment... took a few moon shots however just before the clouds rolled in.

Stack of 18 raw from Canon 1100D ISO 100 1/125 exposure, some post process to bring out some colors and sharpness (Registax Wavelets rocks!)

I suppose at 2.8 you could have exposed for less time but Im not sure results would be better as the horizon is showing a lot of light pollution; Wish I had one of these wide field lens myself!!

Try to bump up ISO next time and you should get much more detail out of it...

Can't once over 1 second it wont allow you to change ISO. its a bridge camera. will try 1 sec and try doing the iso. want to get a shot of jupiter and its moons next.

Pretty show stopper that restricted ISO on Manual mode :(

There might be some hope however with CHDK Hack Firmware if you feel brave! I use such firmware on my 1100D (Magic Lantern) and since they load from SD Card its usually pretty safe but there are risks...
