im trying to find out whats on offer in sydney for new years. right now it would seem a boat out in front of the harbour bridge might be the best idea (ranging in price from 200-450aud).

has anyone done sydney for new years in recent years and has any recomendations or anything?

Last year, we went to a park in Kirribilli and watched the fireworks for free! Theres loads of lesser known parks around where you can watch the fireworks in relative comfort.

How do you get home after it, are there taxis or anything that night.

Yeah we got taxis no bother. Im generally not a fan of New Years but had a brilliant one in Sydney......ringing in the Irish New Year in the Tea Gardens at 8.00 the next morning was some experience!

Fireworks at Darling harbour at 9pm are pretty good, very family orientated though.

After that you could head to a bottle shop and down to Pirrama park in Pyrmont, perfect view of the harbour bridge and usually just a nice crowd.

Spent last year at Rose Bay - was one of the few spots that didnt have an alcohol ban and had a great view of the bridge for the fireworks. Got a spot at about 3 in the afternoon and stayed there the whole day, it was packed by 5pm!

only downside was afterwards....getting a cab was a disaster and when one finaly did stop, he wanted $50 to go about three miles:mad:
