Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Renting in Dublin on the dole

    I want to move into Dublin city but I'm unemployed and on the dole.
    I notice quite a few ads I've looked at say things like 'professional only'.
    Well I'm a professional, I'm just unemployed! :rolleyes:

    I'm just wondering if I'll have problems finding somewhere or if people will be reluctant to rent to me. Not really fussy about whether it's flatshare or whatever just so long as it's somewhere relatively central and not a crack-den, because I'm going slightly crazy where I am at the moment.

    Most decent places want people that are working because landlords don't want be waiting on rent allowance to come through and landlords tend to have problems with getting rent from people on the dole. Most decent places are over the 400-500 mark but rent obviously gets cheaper the further you are from the city centre.

    Professional only = no rent allowance,IE Person working now.
    theres different rates, sharing ,non sharing on ra.


    focuspoint temple bar ,give out list flats for rent that take rent allowance everyday 11pm.
    they give advice how to get a flat etc
    theres always been a limited amount of landlords ,that take on ra clients.
    in my experience even on ra, you,ll need to pay deposit
    7 weeks rent plus.

    if you wanna get a flat you need to be looking from 10am
    mon- satrday.
    theres more competition in dublin, to get flats .
    first get on council housing list.
    You need to be on list to be eligible for ra.
    you see some ads ,say 95 e per week,no mention of ra,
    or professionals,
    its irrelevant whether landlord takes ra,
    cos 95 is over the ra limit for single person.
    IN dublin ,best you can get is small flat or bedsit,
    if you are ra client.

    its around the corner,1st left past meeting house square,
    as you go away from o,connell street direction.
    they also serve meals, tea at a reasonable price.
    theres usually flats ,bedsits , north circular road,
    or city centre .
    you have to be organised ,disciplined to get
    a flat,and have all the documents,deposit ready,
    a good flat will be gone in 1 or 2 days.
    get a travel 90 ticket, allows you to take 2 or 3 bus trips
    in a 90 minute time period.
    since its hard to get a home loan, theres probably more people
    now renting ,than say, 4 years ago.
    its possible for any house owner to rent to an ra ,client,
    under rent a room scheme, no tax liability,
    unless rent is over ten k per year.
    theres plenty of landlord s ,that take ra tenants,but
    they rent house, to single mothers .
    simpler than looking for 3 single person tenants on ra.With all
    the forms ,involved etc
    AS to your profession ,it depends on what that is,
    ie there,s probably loads of ex taxi drivers on the dole.
