    Incredible comeback from Sweden.

That German defence was there for the taking all night and we failed to even make them sweat. This is why trap is getting abuse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,465 ✭✭✭kitakyushu

That has to be one of the greatest comebacks I've ever seen. As much as I should be booing Sweden and hoping them to lose, I just couldn't. They showed amazing character. I was about to type a post "well they lost 4-3 but if we could get a manager who made us play like that then I'd give him a job for life." However that goes doubly so now. Germany's total lack of character demonstrates we gave them a free ride last Friday and even if we were to lose we should have at least had a go at them.

    Trap out.

Poor result for us. We needed Germany to beat Sweden home and away, cos they are going to do that to us, but fair play to the Swedes, thats some comeback.

Well all I can say is that it's obvious Germany are an away team. Pfft can only beat faroes 3-0 at home followed by capitulating v Sweden

I'd fancy our chances easily in Berlin if I'm honest.

As for Sweden- they only won 2-1 in Faroe come on. Should be two wins there

    We're going to Rio

Somewhere, in a parallel world, there is a whole bunch of boards.de crying and wailing for their manager to go!

    Hypothetical question to Liam Brady....

As things stand, Ireland will have to get results against Sweden and Germany over 3 games to come, and beat Austria and Kazakhstan to have any hope of qualifying, providing no unexpected results elsewhere. Do you think that is possible given the way that they are set up to play?

They are unlikely to drop points against Austria, Faroes, Kazakhstan imo.

I'd say whoever made the bet reversed it when the odds were lower once the comback was on, they will still have made a packet though

Generally people backing them 1000 shots for large stakes are only doing so in the hope that they can trade out at a lower price. Still though, i'm sure he made a packet. Alas with betfair, there's 2 sides to every coin, it's not a greedy bookie corporation paying out a fortune but a punter like you and me

completely agree. sure the Germany game was horrible but there are some positives now - new blood is there and 6 points was the expectation. in with a shout of 2nd which is the aim from the campaign

A few punters with a few grand sitting around and looking to make a couple of quid while risking thousands. I feel no sympathy for anyone losing that kind of money in those circumstances.

Since the draw was made, and particularly since the game on Friday, plenty Irish players and our manager have peddled the message that we have no hope of finishing ahead of Germany, are playing for 2nd etc... Sweden meanwhile go 4-0 down in Germany and fight back to draw 4-4. The message sent from our management to the team, that we could never compete with the Germans was mind-boggling really. Fair play to Sweden for having the heart, belief and ability to pull that back.

    And specifically, they have Ibrahimovic.

2nd half of Portugal vs N. Ireland kicking of now on SS1. N. ireland 1-0 up away but were getting pummeled by Portugal in the 1st half, might make interesting viewing.

We have the potential to beat Sweden at home.

    Just hope Trap goes.
