Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi guys,

As title says I getting a new work phone in next couple of weeks and I'm been given a choice between the HTC One V or the Ace 2. I've never had a touch screen smart phone so don't know which to go for. I'd be using it mainly for calls, texts, some emails when I'm on the road and I suppose maps would be handy for directions. I don't see myself doing that much web browzing or the like as I've managed fine without that service all along.

    Any advice would be welcome.

I've seen both and both owners are quite happy with them. Both owners are similar types of user to you (went from Nokias).

However the Ace seems like a snappier phone. I've a GS3 and when comparing to the Ace I was impressed by it.

For both phones I got to set them up for the users so I did my usual of replacing launchers and some standard apps so the OS was configured similarly on both. Once I'd done that the Ace was faster.

The Ace I was looking at came with Android 2.3 though so that's something to bear in mind. You can check with your carrier before buying to see what version it had. I think the HTC had 4.something.

Yes, the One V has Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Galaxy Ace 2 is due to get an update to Jellybean. Where as the HTC V will not. You may have to wait quite a while though.

The HTC Desire X is out now as well, might be a phone to consider. Slightly larger screen, around the same price, snappier camera than the Ace 2.

O2 are the carrier and the Ace 2 or the One V are what they are offering. I'd have to give 200e to uprade to the S3 but to be honest the sister has one and its huge I'd never mind it in my pocket.

The guy in O2 is pushing the HTC One V over the Ace 2 but don't know what the reasons are behind this he's saying its a better phone.

Well, just in case you didn't know, o2 have the Desire X listed for an October release on their 'coming soon' page, and it's already in Vodafone for €229. So keep it in mind as an option that will be soon available to you, if you aren't bothered waiting a few weeks.

I'd either wait for the Desire X or get the Ace 2, the One V only has a single core processor and less ram and also the Ace 2 is expected to get the Jelly Bean update soon.

Edit: Desire X is available on o2 now, Link.

My Galaxy Ace is on the way out, to be honest I was never overly impressed with it. I use it for the basics, and facebook froze on it more often than not. It was so slow that angry birds was a no no on the devise!
So I'm in the market for a new one, but I'm not hugely tekkie, I hear the S3 is the best thing since sliced bread, but I'm not paying out that kinda moola.

I have been offered by my service provider a Galaxy ACE TWO or an HTC Desire X
I've read the specs on both and there are pros and cons. Gingerbread vers icecream (sounds yummie) one camera is better than the other.

But in terms of running and responsiveness and screens freezing up = which one would YOU CHOOSE?

I'd go for the HTC. The Ace is on a legacy version of android and I wouldn't expect stellar performance if it upgrades to jellybean.
