The Nursing Careers Centre has updated its booklet 'Nursing/ Midwifery; A Career for You' for 2013.

You can order a copy on 01 6398500 or look at it online here: http://www.nursingboard.ie/en/careers.aspx

CAO opens on November the 5th for all applications.

Mature students to Nursing also need to apply to PAS, the Public Appointments service between the 15th of February and the 5th of March 2013. Website: http://www.publicjobs.ie/publicjobs/who/health/nurse.htm

Hi i applied for the army within the last 18months and done a psychometric exam for the public jobs crowd. Do i have to re-do it again if i wish to apply for nursing in 2013 as a mature student??

I have not read all the posts here but as far as i am aware there is still a test to get into nursing course. I believe it takes place in February each year and is an aptitude test of some sorts. I am open to correction on this though. I am in Dungarvan and have noticed that WIT do not offer as many nursing courses as say UCC.

Do guys apply anymore for nursing or are they still given the hairy eyeball when they do? I am assuming it is more difficult for a bloke to get into nursing as a mature student than it is for a woman? Then again i could be wrong.

Not sure what one to do tbh, i want to do paeds but am a bit nervous that it would look kinda weird. It would have to be either UCC or WIT for me just on logistics of travel etc.

    Any reccommendations appreciated, thanks.

Hi LimerickRugby you do need to follow the application process for Nursing as the assessment tests will have specific components related to Nursing that you wont have covered in your army application.

Have a look at the Nursing careers booklet linked above. It goes through all the information.

You need to apply via CAO as a Mature Applicant before 1st of Feb 2013. You also have to apply to PAS, the public appointments service between the 15th of February and the 5th of March. You do that online here: http://www.publicjobs.ie

Invitations to the Aptitude and assessment tests will be made in Mid April via PAS and the test will take place on Saturday 27th of April 2013 in Dublin, Cork and Galway. Results will be issued in early June and official offers will be made in July although in some cases you can find out informally, from the colleges prior to this.

If you succeed at the aptitude tests and get sufficient Mature applicant points you will be made an offer. Gender isn't a grounds for refusal. There aren't many male nurses which is a bit of a shame but if this is what you want then definitely apply for it.

    .

There are some paeds nursing courses but you can also do general nursing and look to specialise in Paeds later. Look at the links in the first post. They will bring you to good sites of info on the application process.

Thanks paperclip, I was gonna do the RGN 4 years first and then do paeds after, its only another 6months if you do it straight after in WIT.

Hi everyone, I applied through the cao as a mature student for nursing in ucc and I found a very helpful website..

    http://www.nursingboard.ie/en/making-an-application.aspx

Mature Code is for those applicants who are 23 years of age or over on 1st January on the year of entry. Such applicants will be required to undergo an assessment process. For details, see Nursing/Midwifery A Career for You (see below download). A quota of places is allocated to mature code applicants. As a guide, this amounts to approximately 15% for general nursing, 35% for intellectual disability nursing, 35% for psychiatric nursing, 15% for children’s and general nursing (integrated) and 20% for midwifery. However, this is a dynamic quota and may vary between courses.

An applicant who wishes to be considered under both standard code and mature code categories must enter both appropriate codes as separate preferences. Only one programme code may appear in a preference box; a single programme code is a preference.

Please note that there are changes to the mature application process from previous years. Having applied through the CAO before 1 February 2013 at 5.15pm, Mature Applicants must also register and apply through the PAS website www.publicjobs.ie between 15 February and 5 March 2013 at 5.15pm. This is required as PAS undertakes the written assessment on behalf of the NCC.

Firstly you must log-on to www.publicjobs.ie and if you have not previously registered and you are a New User you must ‘Register’ before applying. You must remember your User Name and Password as you will require these to access your
Message Board for communications from the PAS e.g. invitation to attend for written assessment, results, etc.

Please do not confuse Registering with Applying. Once you have registered you must then access the application form, complete and submit it. The application form will only be available on www.publicjobs.ie between 15 February and
5 March 2013, under the job category ‘Medical’, sub category‘Nurse/NurseManagement’

To register and apply with PAS you should have to hand your CAO number, a valid e-mail address and your Personal Public Service (PPS) number (if you have one).

Please note that once you have applied, you are advised to check your Message Board (located within your personal profile) for communications from PAS. If you do not complete all steps, your application will not be considered valid and you will receive no further consideration.
I am concern about the exam anybody knows any tips or books that I could read?? and if anyone had done the exam before please let me know how was it???
