I doubt they will be down often, most of the organising can be done over the phone id imagine! Midnight.ie run hugely successful club nights.. and thats it!

What more does any club want then to have successful club nights? Irelands biggest club The Wright Venue is now using them to run their Residence night in the club as they have done so well with it in smaller venues

I heard there was a bit of trouble last night with numbers inside the crowd, something to do with over crowding.

Might pop in over the weekend though.

I am hearing this place is dying a death already. I hope this is typical Cork hyperbole?

I don't think it is TBH. Fridays are not that busy, but Fridays aren't that busy in Cork anyway. Thursdays and Saturdays tend to be pretty busy. Remember how huge the place is, there could easily be 600+ in there and it would look like less.

Was in there Friday last week, was completely empty, lucky to have 50 - 60 people there. Hope it doesnt fail.

I can see why its empty if they are charging €15 in. It needs to set itself out from the other clubs (which are all bunched together up by Washington St/Grand Parade). Savoy is very out of the way in terms of nightlife spots. Having a charge of €15 in isnt going to do them favours.

Are you joking? Fridays and Saturdays are Corks busiest nights. Fridays not so much with students but most bars/clubs will be packed to capacity on a friday night.

Savoy seriously need to rethink the €15 charge. People arent going to walk to the otherside of the city for a superclub when there is a major risk the place is going to be half empty. If it was a €5 (which it should be until it picks up a reputation for over coming its previous downfalls) then people would be willing to 'give it a try'. I find the problem in Cork at the moment is each club serves a particular demographic and people are too afraid to go to different places in case its either empty or full of a type of person you dont want to share a night with. Nobody is going to pay €15 when they are taking a risk with the club.
Management dont seem to know how to launch a new product (which a club really is). They need to stand out some way and at the mo, they are standing out for all the wrong reasons. Empty and expensive.

you have just described the typical behaviour of all age groups who go out and socialise, we typically want to mix with those of the same type.

Is Bob Tweedy involved in this? He of Ruby's in waterford fame? Or infamy?

Exactly. So people arent going to spend €15 to see what sort of demographic is in the Savoy. Its madness launching a product/service, charging premium rates and then expecting to fill the place. Its not going to work. They will fail unless they make people feel they are getting their moneys worth. What makes Savoy worth paying €15 for? Nothing in my eyes!

why? I actually heard his name mentioned alright but I don't know for sure. Bob Tweedy goes back a long time, I remember pints in Bad Bobs during my college days:)

Have to disagree there. Fridays are very rarely 'packed to capacity' nowadays. Busier than normal nights but certainly not mad busy. Thursdays and Saturdays are the busiest in the city centre by a long shot.

I kind of agree re the €15 though but it's hard to know what kind of price to set in fairness. If you decide on 5/8/10 are you really just promoting another Cubins/Havanas/Whatever or do you try to catch and create a different market?

I reckon that it'll be hard to judge for a while yet as November is a terrible month for bar business, December should be busy anyway and mid January - Feb falls off as well so they won't really learn the true level of business until May or June IMO.
