    I just thought that I would re-post the content of an email alert from Cork City Council about possible flooding tonight.

    If you are in a low-lying area of the city or county, you should probably batten down the hatches and prepare any flood defenses you may have.
    The following flood alert has been issued by Cork City Council on 16th October, 2012

    CORK CITY FLOOD ALERT

    High tide is due in Cork on the following day/time

    Wednesday 17/10/12 7:13 hours and 19:34hours.

    Risk of flooding in vulnerable areas in Cork City prior to and after the these tides due to a combination of low barometric pressure, tidal surge and prolonged heavy rain.

    It is possible that flooding may occur on Morrisons Island, Union Quay,South Terrace, Georges Quay, Proby,s Quay, French’s Quay, Wanndesford Quay, Sharman Crawford St., Coal Quay, Lavitt’s Quay,Kryl’s Quay, Kennedy Quay, Centre Park Road and Monaghan,s Road and the low lying areas of the City Centre.

    Steps should therefore be taken to protect properties.

    Many closed roads should now be open or open soon as the floods are receding considerably.

    More heavy rain/showers expected all day today so hopefully high tide tonight won't affect us again

    As I posted yesterday, there is a lot of rain forecast, SE winds and High Water (4.3m) is 1927 (Cobh).

    Boards forecast: Science -> Weather

    A SE wind drives the water up the Lee and we have a spring tide - so High Water is relatively high at 4.3m

    High Water is 1927 in Cobh, and 1934 in the city. Coupled with high SE winds and more rain throughout the day, I would expect a bit more flooding tonight in Cork city centre.

    I'm not trying to be alarmist....... forewarned is forearmed.
