Years ago I used a site that anonymized results from Google, Bing and Yahoo. Even back then, the results were all about the same. I don't think I've ever found anything useful past page two of the results.

    Donedeal all the way

But i am a Gman myself. Bing or windows live search or msn were always too confusing.

Bing is the default search engine in work and it regularly fails to find what I'm looking for - so on that basis I prefer google.

Has Google stopped showing the number of search results when you click the 'pages from Ireland' tab or is it just me?

Thanks for all the helpful answers guys...

How old is your google. i havent seen a only from ireland dot in a year. its a multilingual search. maybe its just the fact i like using google.au,.com(America) and think india and china, even though its set to .ie so truthfully the answer is i can neither conform or deny that they have removed the amount but on the .ie standard its still there. i typed google into google.ie and got About 13,460,000,000 results (0.20 seconds)

Went from Altavista to Google a few years back. Find Google good for custom search words ("not", "-", "inurl").

I've never actually used bing to be perfectly honest. Its one of these things I forget exists until I hear about it a couple times a year.

I have never found anything I've needed on Bing. It's fcking awful.

Whenever I'm on technet or any microsoft site, the built-in search engine never finds what I need. I have to do a google advanced search which always works for me.

+1 on how pathetic Microsoft are to aggressively impose the search engine in every possible way. Google would never ever need to do this:

There's a reason people "Google" stuff as opposed to "Bing".

Binging doesn't have the same ring to it.

Bing is built into the windows phone and it's just nowhere near as good as google. I just did a serch on bing there and it comes back with totally irrelevant results. It's like an old school serch engine bringing results from all over the world when your really looking for something local.

At the same time you wonder if google is being too suggestive.

    Wolfram Alpha.

Which might have had more success if they'd picked a name that you could remember without having to google it.

I used to go online using a Sega Dreamcast. Excite was the default search engine. I'm amazed it's still going. http://www.excite.com/

same here, mmmmmmm, the delightful frustration of the dream key cd deciding to randomly fail when it wants, and then the god awful twenty six k modem.... still, some forums loaded on it,the sega europe forum that was accessible from it with all the VMU uploads was pretty awesome, cant ever remember using excite.

    People actually use Bing????

Its actually rubbish. Google actually finds what you're searching for. Used Bing once and it sent me around in circles.

Google all the way. Google is a now a verb for a reason. Something Bing will never be.

Been using bing for well over a year, It's always been not great, but I like a challenge, sometimes you almost have to lead it to a website, but lately it's really getting worse, some page results just seem complete ramdom, afraid to use more terms in defining what I'm looking for as results just go further of target or the "no result" (A search engine that often comes back with "no result").

Bing reminds me of a dog, you throw out a bone and say fetch, sometimes comes back with the bone or something else & you almost have to walk over and point at the bone, sometimes gets lost & sometimes justs sits there looking at you with an expression, "you want the bone go fetch it yourself"

I went to Bing-help for help in refining results, their solution if you can't find what your looking for is to wikipedia it, then use the reference links to find the page. Seriously this is actually their solution.

Bing gives a binging headache, but has character & is the underdog, so sticking with it a while longer.

I worked for MS for 18 months and even we all used Google.

Everyone in the know, was aware Bing copied the Google search algorithms, wether that is still the case or not I don't know.

I'm all for moving from the "norm" to another type of software or platform if I feel it will grow, or needs help growing, but with Microsoft and the web, you can be sure it will be rubbish.
