Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thread here on Motors, but this is truly stupid behaviour. Hope someone gets prosecuted for this.

In hindsight, it was dumb, but it probably seemed a great idea at the time. The voice on the video says it all - I doubt they went out to cause an accident, but somtimes, the dumb-side takes over. Probably desperate to drum up some publicity and thought it would be a great marketing shot. Maybe it will be, still?? maybe not... The driver probably had his "Jasus, do I have to Boss?" hat on at the time, in fairness. Not the brightest, but nobody died, so why the big hub-bub?

is it not Linehan? I think Lenihan was more into bigger pile-ups, like bank guarantees, etc.

Truly Irish are denying any responsibility for this photoshoot yet have the following out on the web.

Photos on their own webpage of the trucks parked up - looks like a similar photoshhot

A recent photo on their facebook of the trucks

So, tell me. You knew nothing about this. Hmmmmm.

Can't wait to hear what the haulage company say.

mcauliffe trucking seem to have taken down their photoshoot from their facebook... or it was public to view but not anymore.
It showed the trulyirish photoshoot along with a line up of their staff/drivers I'm assuming.

I'd ask the pertinent question to both companies: who directed the photoshoot?

Running and hiding, deleting FB posts and taking down photos from websites, and denying that you have any involvement as they are not your trucks is no way to manage your PR.

Come clean. Who directed the photoshoot?

Now mcauliffe trucking have taken down the vid on youtube where the 3 truly irish branded trucks are going around a roundabout 4 or 5 times blaring their air horns until normal traffic arrives. There were a few other vids of the trucks travelling in convoy making a lot of noise.

They are hiding as much evidence as they can.

Thank you for reopening the thread - I believe both companies deserve to give an explanation for this.

McAuliffe for their drivers behaviour and Truly Irish as to if this was a official photoshoot. If it was not, then why do they have photos what what appears to be the same shoot on their website?

Could a mod remove the reference to Truly Irish in the thread title until they make a statement. Thanks.

Looks like Truly Irish are in damage limitation mode. Every trace of these trucks is being removed from their facebook page, which is being heavily censored.

Lorrys shouldn't have been stopped in the driving lane under a flyover with two more stopped over it, causing a possible distraction.

But no one mentions the two car drivers, lead car going far to slow to pull out into over taking lane with being aware or looking for faster car coming up behind him/her in the overtaking lane.

True, but I'd say the first car wasn't aware that the lorry wasn't moving until he was on top of it.

    Are you mad?

The truck was parked under the flyover and it's tail was quite possibly in the shadow of the bridge. It shouldn't have been there at all!

Hi all, this is the statement we have received from McAuliffe Trucking, hope this clears everything up.

    "To Whom It May Concern,

Hoping you are well. I am a manager in McAuliffe Trucking. We are established since 1970 and take great pride in our fleet, drivers and staff.

We contribute our time to charities and regularly make donations. Since there is a local Charity Scania Truck run in Kerry, we could never get involved as we run DAF trucks so we said we would start our own Charity DAF run or an all make of truck Charity run.

We recently had a little girl succumb to Leukaemia and we named our flagship DAF in memory of her. This truck is now called Lady Ava. We also got vinyl stickers made with the Leukaemia penguin to raise awarness and to keep a constant memory of Ava. We have these fitted to all our trucks and can send you a pack if you want to give me your details.

On Sunday 14/10/12, we had a photo shoot to start the promotion of our Charity run. I had called the Castleisland Gardai seeking permission on Friday 12/10/12 to conduct a photo shoot on the
N21 and the Castleisland Bypass. The Gardai gave me permission to do this which be verified at Castleisland Garda Station.

I then arranged a meeting with all staff for 3pm on Saturday 13/10/12, all details were discussed and jobs and traffic controller positions were assigned. I also carried out a full risk assessment and received signatures of all involved. The weather on Sunday was good so we arranged to meet up and begin preparations for the photo shoot. There were traffic controllers positioned at the front and back of the three trucks for the duration of the video shoot.

Still shots were taken at the view point and the bridge on the bypass of Castleisland afterwards. For the still shot on the bridge, I sent only two drivers to the bridge as the third driver did not know his way there. He stopped under the bridge with his hazard, parking and dipped headlights on and waited for one of the other drivers to come down the steps and sit in with him to guide him to the bridge road. He was waiting no longer than one minute and during this time, a silver car came up behind him and swung out in to the path of another car. There was a touch of bumpers and the two cars stopped, the drivers got out, talked to each other, shook hands and drove away.

Unfortunately, this was captured by someone on a phone, uploaded on YouTube and has since gone viral. As soon as we heard about it, we got the video taken down immediately but then someone uploaded it again and titled it “McAuliffe Trucking Dangerous Driving”.

Every person involved in the photo shoot is dismayed after putting their free time at their own expense into both Saturday and Sunday for a worthy charity promotion, only to have backfired due to a small accident that was caused by a car not watching his lane while our company was also put up on YouTube and portrayed by a small minority as dangerous driving.

Now as you can see, we had received permission from the Gardai, carried out a Risk assessment/Risk report, had plenty of qualified personal to arrange everything whilst wearing HiViz gear and everything went according to plan.

I would also like to mention that we received a phonecall this morning from Breda O’Brien, Suicide Awareness, asking McAuliffe Trucking to help raise funds for the organisation. If you wish to donate or contribute to these charities, please contact McAuliffe Trucking.

Finally, I would like to say thank you to all the staff and everyone that came in on Saturday and Sunday on their days off to help and assist in everyway the Charity Truck run. They’re a great bunch of people.

    Keep up the Good Work.

    Kind and Very Best Regards
    Davy Corkery
    McAuliffe Trucking."

So Truly Irish and McAuliffe Haulage share the same CEO/Managing Director? His son has been caught trying (badly) to steer the debate in their favour on motors and his daughter is the person the filmed the whole thing. Have I missed anything?

Obviously not behind the one parked under the bridge though.

Well, it was an unfortunate incident, things worked out badly in this case and I doubt if any similar marketing strategies will be encouraged, but it is not the end of the world - a lot of companies are doing their own marketing to try to save costs, inevitably there will be a few misses amongst the hits. Haulage is financially tough at the moment, I'd hate to see this drag down/diminish another Irish Company - lessons to be learnt and then move on?? Maybe abandon the poorly thought through marketing campaigns and focus on hauling goods Mcaulifes??
