Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I recently applied for a position that required two subjects, my own subject (French) and the other being English (which I have not studied since Leaving Cert and something I wouldn't like to teach). As I know the school there will be more hours for my own subject. From my dip I don't remember anyone that had a language and English (we had a small language methodology and knew everyones subjects). I was also talking to someone who has English and was told that they didn't know anyone with English and a language. Are English and French popular BA combinations? I know that English and History is popular.

    I think they're incredibly popular. I must know at least 12 English and French teachers and I've only been in four schools. In my last school I was the only English teacher who didn't have an additional language - the rest were either English/French or English/German. Indeed most of the History teachers there were History/Geography. Silly me - I'm damned with my English/History combination.

    They may divide the hours, though. I'm currently in a school where I have some of my own hours, but I'm also covering the 5th and 6th year English classes of an English/French teacher who is on maternity leave. Her French hours are with an different sub.

    You're obviously one of the lucky English and history teachers :)

    It would be great if they could divide the hours! I'm finding it very difficult to get work :( I've had loads of unsuccessful interviews. They all go very well and I get a good vibe from the interviewers but never get the job. At least if this job was split I may have a chance as I did my first day of teaching in the school where the position is for!
