How come I sometimes still see the old look and feel site?

Sometimes when I go to www.boards.ie, it loads the old look and feel site rather than the new one, which appears if I then do a refresh. Weird.

    You didn't say what skin/theme you're on.

If you're on the dark theme, it can sometimes show the normal, white one for a second before it applies the dark theme to the page, resulting in a 'flash'/refresh like effect.

If I wanted that sort of response I'd have posted in After Hours...

I just have the regular blue/white theme, and I don't have to log in to get this problem. The site actually looks like it did before the upgraded look and feel (like it looked last year for example) until I do a refresh.

the fact that it corrects itself when you do a refresh could mean that the old site is cached by your OS somewhere so, in order to get you teh site faster it loads the cached version first while the actual site downloads in the background. Is deleting your browser cache an option ? (I know I dont like having to delete browser history because I forget visited links etc :( ).

cache ≠ history. You can delete your cache but keep your history (or vice-versa)

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

If it's cached in my system, then it's buried deeper than a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma - my browser is set to not track my history and also to clear everything (including cache and history) upon closing the application, and has been that way for years...

you're not browsing from behind some form of web accelerator are you? They can store cached websites for faster delivery. the caching might not be on your own pc then and your local settings wouldnt make a difference.

also, you say in the OP that its "sometimes"...whats the difference between when it does happen and when it doesnt?

Can you start to keep note? if its on a work pc that it does and home laptop that it doesnt, then there's your answer right there. if its seemingly random, then maybe a traceroute from your PC to boards.ie could be useful in recording what path your are taking, maybe its something along the path.

Ok, it happens both at work and at home, happened again just now at home. I'm on 3 mobile broadband here, not sure who work is with. No difference between opening the site now than on any other day. I opened Firefox, and went straight to www.boards.ie and got the old look and feel and layout...

    to anyone reading this thread:

anyone else having this issue? anyone on 3 mobile and not experiencing this?

just trying to work out if its a site issue or a carrier issue or a firefox issue. I'm on IE and I havent experienced this (not using 3 mobile either)

Hi, I know this is off topic but thats the reason I'm posting here.

I cannot open new threads, or reply to existing ones using the conventional Post Reply option. It won't let me use smilies or or the icon bar.

When I go to submit a reply I get this message - 1.The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 1 characters.

Then the content of my reply is instantly deleted. Very frustrating. Anyone know whats up ? I can only post using the Post Quick Reply box at the bottom of the page.

I reckon this happens when you clear your cache after purging Firefox of your porn history.
